What's shaping up to be a long stretch without Paul George is set to continue for the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the red-hot Sacramento Kings George, who averages 24.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists, has been experiencing pain and swelling near his right big toe and was diagnosed with a bone edema, the team announced on Friday. George sat out of the Clippers' 119-115 loss at the Boston Celtics on Friday, two days after making 8 of 9 from 3-point range and scoring 36 points in a 121-99 win at the Cleveland Cavaliers. After giving up 65 points in the first half against the Heat on Wednesday, the Wizards allowed just 35 in the second half, the fewest points they have given up in any half this season. While it will be difficult to once again hold Miami’s sharpshooting backcourt duo of Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson to 11.1% shooting – as they in the second half on Wednesday – there are elements of the defensive showing that could be replicable, like defending the paint without fouling. Washington committed just six fouls in the second half, only one of which came from their frontcourt trio of Robin Lopez, Alex Len and Rui Hachimura. Brooks also credited much of the team’s defensive success on Wednesday with their shot-making on the other end of the court, allowing them to get back ahead of the break and prevent easy transition baskets.

In Wednesday’s game, Luguentz Dort played only 10 minutes before sitting for the rest of the game. Dort has soreness in his left knee and he will not play against the Timberwolves tonight. These injuries have left the Thunder rotation looking thin. Coach Mark will need to go deep into his bench to make up the minutes that are usually played by Dort and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. It would not be surprising to see Justin Jackson and Darius Miller play extended minutes in tonight's game.

in their last meeting, Sunday. Every time Houston missed a shot in the first quarter, there was LeBron James or Anthony Davis grabbing the rebound and tossing the ball ahead to a wide open Laker for a layup. LeBron also did the thing where he made a couple of relatively easy layups then flexed to the crowd of like 12 people after he got the and-1. It cannot be overstated how devastating those were to the Rockets early. It set the tone that the Lakers were going to be the stronger and more aggressive team, and they absolutely were. And it put Christian Wood into unnecessary foul trouble. Finally, Talen Horton-Tucker, a player I thought was entirely a product of the Los Angeles media, outhustled every Rockets player for multiple rebounds and loose balls.

Houston is coming off two games in which the team fell behind early and spent most of their energy getting back into the game. Against Indiana, the Rockets were even able to take the lead before failing offensively down the stretch. A lot of Houston’s woes can easily be attributed to injuries. The Rockets still have not had their full complement of players in any single game this season, and tonight probably won’t be the first time unless all three of Christian Wood (knee), Danuel House Jr. (back), and Ben McLemore (COVID protocols) are ready to play. Of course, that excuse is pretty weak when you compare Houston’s situation to the Orlando Magic’s. The Magic lost Markelle Fultz, one of the best stories in the NBA, to an ACL tear on Wednesday.
