Seattle has won four of his five starts this season with the lone loss coming in his start previous to his last one where he gave up three runs. Kyle Gibson has been pitching pretty well to begin the season according to his Baseball Savant page. He is in the 67th percentile in average exit velocity, 77th percentile in hard-hit percentage, 76th percentile in barrel percentage, and 73rd percentile in chase rate. He has a 5.2 barrel percentage, which if it stays that way would be his lowest since 2015. Gibson relies on a six-pitch arsenal (sinker, slider, cutter, fastball, changeup, curveball) and really increased the cutter usage from 0.4 percent in 2020 to 15 percent this season. His heater has been nearly unhittable as it has a .077 batting average against it. He hasn’t faced the Giants since his rookie season back in 2014 so it will be interesting to see him battle against guys he isn’t really familiar with.
