While the Lightning offense exploded in game five, the defense has been great the entire playoffs, creating turnovers in all three zones and posting another shutout in their recent victory. Victor Hedman, Erik Cernak, and Mikhail Sergachev have suffocated the Islanders' offense in the Semifinal series and have been forcing difficult shots on the net. Meanwhile, the Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has been playing at an elite level, as he is only allowing 2.05 goals per game and saving .936 percent of shots, including shutting out the Islanders in the recent victory.

While the offense only scored one goal in the opening game, the Montreal defense also unraveled late in the game, allowing two goals in the final 25 minutes of the game to ultimately put the game out of reach. Carey Price has been incredible the entire playoffs, allowing only 2.1 goals per game and saving .929 percent of shots but the Golden Knights were able to methodically attack him in the game and scored 4 goals on 30 shots. Moreover, the Canadiens will have to figure out how to replace one of the best defensemen in the game in Jeff Petry, who might miss time in the series with an injury.

The Tampa Bay Lightning live or die on the play of goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. The Lightning’s goalie followed a dominating regular season with an equally dominating postseason and is likely to win the Vezina Trophy. Vasilevskiy has a save percentage of .934 and a 2.24 goals against average during the postseason, while posting a pair of shutouts. In front of goal, Tampa Bay has relied on Victor Hedman, who has been nominated for the Norris Trophy. Hedman has also helped on offense with 11 points in 11 postseason games. Ryan McDonagh and Erik Cernak have been Tampa Bay's best defensive pairing.
