Oregon’s passing game hasn’t been great and the pass protection has struggled to keep hands off Tyler Shough.Iowa State will look to get through the pass protection with an above average pass rush. That pass rush will force mistakes and help Iowa State’s coverage make some plays. Iowa State’s run game should be effective behind Hall, who many thought could be a potential Heisman candidate earlier in the season. He’ll likely rack up over 20 touchdowns and over 1500 yards on the ground on the season in this game. His dominance should take over on offense, especially when Iowa State’s defense gets some stops and the Cyclones have to run out the clock. Take the Cyclones

If Kentucky is going to defeat NC State, the Wildcats will need a lot of help from their defense, especially in the turnover battle. UK has a strong rushing attack and the Wolfpack defense will be without its defensive anchor. So this game could come down to if Wildcats quarterback Terry Wilson can make plays with his arm. If he can, then Kentucky has a chance to pull off the victory. But that has not been a winning formula for the 'Cats this season whereas NC State enters this game with more momentum having won four in a row. The Wolfpack make it five straight on Tuesday down in Jacksonville.

What's left is seeing LSU prepare for 2021 with their ongoing youth movement and Alabama tuning up for the SEC Championship Game. Head coach Nick Saban had an eight-game winning streak going against LSU until dropping a 46-41 thriller at home a year ago. CFB 100 DIME GAME 67 UNDER The good news for the Hokies is that they had an extra week to prepare while Clemson took on Pittsburgh. That may be where the positivity ends. Their game two weeks ago against Pitt was without question their worst performance of the season, and the second 30 minutes, after falling down by two scores just before halftime, was particularly abysmal. Justin Fuente's job security is in question, and Clemson is coming to town needing a win to claim an ACC Championship Game spot. Oh, joy. We will see very early on if the Hokies even want to play this game. I believe they will come out with passion at the start, but the Tigers will quickly stifle that. Clemson will win going away to set up the rematch with Notre Dame on Dec. 19.

CFB 100 DIME GAME 62 OVER Coastal Carolina is well-coached and extremely solid on both sides of the football. But the Chanticleers may have bitten off a little more than they can chew here against a stout BYU squad that has very few weaknesses. Offensively, the Cougars have an experienced quarterback with an elite skill set in Zach Wilson, a top-flight rushing attack, and one of the best offensive lines in the nation. The BYU defense is equally stellar, particularly when it comes to stopping the run, which will go a long way in countering what the Chanticleers do best offensively. The Chants will surely give their all on the big stage this Saturday, but it won't be enough against a superior BYU team. Regardless of the outcome, it has already been a phenomenal run for a Coastal Carolina team that came into this bizarro season with little to no fanfare.

CFB 100 DIME GAME UCF The UCF quarterback has been nothing short of spectacular. He’s thrown for 21 touchdowns in just six games, with only two interceptions. His interception-to-attempt ratio (0.14) is on pace to be the lowest in school history. The only quarterbacks who have thrown for more yards than Gabriel’s 2,506 are SMU’s Shane Buechele (2,581) and BYU’s Zach Wilson (2,511). Of course, Buechele and Wilson have also played two more games than Dillon. One would think there wouldn’t be enough footballs to go around, but the Knights also boast two running backs in the top 40 in rushing yards. When Greg McCrae (496 rushing yards) was banged up early, shifty senior Otis Anderson (480 rushing yards) more than picked up the slack. Now that McCrae is fully healthy, he has also been gashing opposing defenses. Look for this one-two punch to each surpass the 100-yard plateau against Temple. Why, then, has this team lost two football games? Simply put, the defense is not holding up its end of the bargain. The Knights rank 64th in opponent yards per rush attempt and 87th in opponent yards per pass attempt, yielding 8.1 yards per pass. To make matters worse, the defense will be without four players who were counted on at the beginning of the season. Starting safety Antwan Collier, linebacker Eric Mitchell, and defensive linemen Kenny Turnier and Randy Charlton were dismissed from the team. This stemmed from an off-the-field incident prior to the Houston game. Temple is dealing with a banged up quarterback. The offense is already horrible, and I expect a big blowout.

Is that a good thing? Each team owns just one conference win this year. Texas Tech offensive coordinator David Yost will probably want SaRodorick Thompson to carry the rock frequently against Baylor's unimposing defensive front. In turn, that should take some pressure off of his quarterbacks. Both Utah State transfer Henry Colombi and oft-injured Alex Bowman are expected to see snaps against Baylor.

No. This is far from being a polished product. But Coach Schiano has the ship steered in the right direction. Competent quarterback play, an offensive playbook that should keep defenses on its heels and a defense that fights through all four quarters. That would’ve been a wish list a year ago for most fans. He’s averaging 117.3 receiving yards a game, and he already has four touchdown catches after finishing last season with six. Against Air Force, receiver CT Thomas needed just two catches to rack up 101 yards and two touchdowns. Oregon vs Stanford is always one of the better games of the year, and these two teams always play each other tough. I think this game on paper looks like a game in which both defenses will play well and this game follows the traditional path of being a lower scoring game. I am going the opposite direction. New faces in Oregon's secondary, a poor 2019 defense in Stanford is down multiple starters this year. I think we see a lot of points scored. Oregon is a 10-point favorite, and I think we see the Cardinal cover in the smallest of margins.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL 100 DIME GAME CLEMSON -5 Clemson is the No. 1 team in the nation, the Tigers come to South Bend without star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and a shorthanded defense. The best path for a win by the Fighting Irish starts by winning the battle in the trenches on offense, allowing Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree to find running room behind a standout offensive line. Quarterback Ian Book doesn’t need huge numbers, but the senior needs to hit on a big play or two, consistently connect on the midrange passes and keep drives alive on third downs. Defensively, Notre Dame has to keep Travis Etienne in check and force a receiver outside of Amari Rodgers to win this game. The Fighting Irish and Tigers battle for four quarters, but D.J. Uiagalelei makes a couple of big plays in the second half, while Clemson’s defense steps up with the game on the line to pull out the victory in South Bend.

The Nittany Lions have defensive talent, but they’ll be rolling out the red carpet for a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate this season. Fields will do more with his arm in this outing, while leaning more on the combination of Teague and Sermon in the offensive backfield. The Buckeyes finished against Nebraska with a 62 percent third-down conversion percentage in their last outing. Northwestern was supposed to have a good defense, and it does, and the offensive line came into the season just fine, but if the skill guys really are that good, look out. Iowa didn’t look the part yet. It struggled against Purdue’s passing game in the loss, it’s own air show didn’t click, and the offense sputtered in the second half with just three points in the loss.

It came up with three sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and it kept rolling all game long in the Spartan backfield. No, the Rutgers D isn’t as good as Penn State’s, but the Indiana offense didn’t do a whole lot of anything until the very end last week – coming up with just 211 yards in all and 41 on the ground. Rutgers should own the time of possession battle, and it should be able to bring up another good enough defensive performance to keep this close. Rutgers can pull the upset here.

Memphis is getting a huge year out of QB Brady White, the running game is grinding just fine – even if it’s not the home-run hitting thrill show of the last few years – and there aren’t enough turnovers to be that big a problem.

It tried to run against Duke to start the season, and noting happened. It tried against Pitt, and it really didn’t happen. For the first time all year, BC finally hit the 100-yard mark, cranking out 264 yards. Clemson’s defense has been incredible, but it’s possible to run a little bit against this group. BC won’t do that – it’ll try winning with Jurkovec – but at least it can give it a shot.

Translation: Don't expect many fireworks here. But do expect a close game and maybe a substantial upset. Pitt's run defense (with help from 29 sacks) has been particularly dominant, leading the nation at just 1.85 yards allowed per carry. And Notre Dame's pass game has been pretty much nonexistent this season, averaging 180.0 yards and 0.75 touchdowns per game. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Panthers hold the Fighting Irish to fewer than three touchdowns. The problem is it also wouldn't be a surprise if Notre Dame all but shuts out Pittsburgh's offense. The Panthers could pull this off, but they're probably going to need a defensive/special teams touchdown to do it. Notre Dame 24-17

COLLEGE FOOTBALL 100 DIME HIGH ROLLER GOY TENNESSEE Tennessee’s offensive line is going to be the difference maker in this game. A talented starting five that centers around Trey Smith will be too much for South Carolina’s revamped defensive front to handle. The Vols also have an experienced quarterback under center in Jarrett Guarantano and he is coming off a strong finish to the 2019 season. He won’t have the big names of Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway to throw to, but Josh Palmer and Brandon Johnson should be able to pick up the slack. South Carolina allowed the Vols to rack up 351 passing yards and three touchdowns a season ago. The Gamecocks will likely have to work out some kinks on the offensive side of the ball in the early going, as grad transfer Collin Hill will be starting at quarterback. They also lost their top three running backs from last season, so it could take some time to find a rhythm. It’s tough to pick Tennessee to win comfortably in a season-opener after last year’s fiasco and the slow start against Indiana with plenty of prep time, so I’ll take the Vols to win this game by less than a touchdown. The small home crowd gives Tennessee an extra advantage.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL 100 DIME GAME GEORGIA SOUTHERN +16 In five straight outings, Appalachian State has surrendered 17 points or fewer. That stingy defense will be the deciding factor, especially since Georgia Southern's success hinges on the effectiveness of its running game. Road games are always dangerous, but we're taking the Mountaineers.

CFB 100 DIME GAME WEST VIRGINIA +18 The defense might be giving up more points than anyone in the Big 12, but the pass rush has been dangerous enough to be a problem, and the offensive line is doing a decent job of keeping defensive fronts out of the backfield. The Baylor pass defense is doing a decent job overall, but it can be picked on. Iowa State’s Brock Purdy went off for well over 300 yards, Jett Duffey and the Texas Tech attack threw well, and this is the game to finally get the WVU passing attack working. This game will be within 10-13 points

COLLEGE FOOTBALL 100 DIME GAME DUKE +3.5 North Carolina has a nice group of weapons for the passing game, and Sam Howell continues to be be terrific – throwing for over 320 yards in three of his last four games, and getting better each week – but the O line is having a few issues. The Tar Heel running game has been good enough to compliment Howell, but it’s not going to take over. There’s been a big problem keeping defenses out of the backfield, though, and Howell is taking several shots. On the other side, the Blue Devil O line is doing a fantastic job. It’s giving everyone time to work, the running game is good enough to overcome a rough run lately by QB Quentin Harris – he’s a whole lot better than he’s been showing. The Duke pass rush is good enough, and it’s had its moments at getting behind the line to make big plays on a regular basis. But more than anything else, the Blue Devils are more than fine when they don’t have problems with … DUKE BY 4 POINTS OR MORE

CFB 100 DIME GAME TEXAS -116 Texas can control the clock, too. That’s TCU’s issue – it has to have the ball or at least 35 minutes to pull this off, and it can’t allow Texas to get out to any sort of a decent lead. The Horned Frog secondary might be fantastic so far, but Texas will be balanced, and the beleaguered defense will be just fine without much of a passing game to worry about. The TCU offense will show up and make this interesting, but Ehlinger will take over as the game goes on. Texas by 4 or more

CFB 100 DIME GAME VIRGINIA -154 Even though Louisville won the previous two H2H duels at Cardinal Stadium, I am going with the Cavaliers here. Virginia has a top 10 defense in the country that allows just 270.3 yards per contest, and the hosts will find it extremely hard to move the chains. The Cavaliers limited Duke to only 14 points last week, and although the Cards are averaging 33.4 points per game, they can forget about reaching that average in this one. Louisville is not playing well against the conference rivals, losing nine of the last ten games, and that’s why I am backing Virginia to get a win.

CFB 150 DIME GAME WESTERN KENTUCKY +5.5 The Thundering Herd are playing well but they have struggled against the spread, especially at home. Even though they have a good offense that is averaging 27.4 points per game, they will have a hard time hitting their season average against the Hilltoppers, who are holding opponents to 17.9 points per game. The Thundering Herd have also struggled defensively and are giving up 26.6 points per game, which means the Hilltoppers, who have the 73rd best passing offense in the country, will be able to keep the score close against a Marshall team that has struggled against the pass and is giving up 248.8 passing yards per game. With the Hilltoppers playing well defensively over their last three games, holding opponents to 8.33 points per game, expect them to cover the spread in this game.
