Mercedes-Benz Stadium Atlanta Notre Dame vs Ohio State 7:30 ET Fighting Irish (+) over Buckeyes- In late November the weekend that Notre Dame pounded the Army 49-14 and Ohio State lost 13-10 to Michigan I mentioned on the College Preview podcasts at Gamblersworld.net that the only way that OSU coach Sean Day can save his job after four straight losses to Michigan was to win the National Championship. I also stated that I thought the Fighting Irish were good enough to win it all. The Buckeyes’ claim had people that could still see them winning but I was scoffed at about the Notre Dame statement. These were not predictions just my personal feelings from my observations. So. now what, both of these clubs beat me last week (first time EVER losing a semi-final game) and now I’m supposed to have a feel for the winner, and I believe that I do! It’s all or nothing and neither of these clubs will be concerned with the number’ as the only thing that matters is winning the game there are no moral victories. You must win the game! CFP Cotton Bowl 7:30 ET Texas vs Ohio State Longhorns (+) over Buckeyes- This choice was easy for me win or lose...what! You see once Ohio State was beaten by Michigan I said that they had to get to the final game to save Day’s job after having lost his fourth straight without a victory against the Wolves. I have had the Buckeyes in both of heir romps over Tennessee (1st Round GOY winner) and Oregon ( Rose Bowl GOY Winner) and they way they have won has titled the balance of the quest for the championship and the Longhorns must feel slighted and are (not that it really makes a difference) in Texas. Notre Dame vs Penn State 7:30 ET Nittany Lions (+) over Fighting Irish- It was pointed out that although Penn State would have to win four games it was believed that the had the easiest route to the final and it sure looks that way after wins over SMU and Boise State. Notre Dame who has 11 college football National Championship to their credit but have not won the big one since 1988. The Fighting Irish defeated Georgia with a 17 point blitz in :54 second and their defense did the rest keeping the Bulldogs under 300 total yards on offense. The Domer’s problem is that their quarterback Leonard just might run for more yards than he passes for, like he did against Georgia. The Lions would be so pleased with that as they the Irish offense doesn’t have the balance needed to win here. Take PENN STATE!

Texas I believe has been a bit over-hyped this season and they failed their biggest tests twice losing to a limited Georgia team that lost to Alabama and Mississippi. The Sun Devils has a great offense but the Longhorns have one of the toughest defenses the nation allowing just 13.3 PPG. Penn State (10-2) the No. 6 seed is heavily favored over 11-1 Boise State. The Lions lost just twice this season to Oregon in the Big Ten title game and to Ohio State the co-favorites to win it all. The Broncos only loss was to Oregon 37-34 back in week 2 on September 7. I am having trouble with Boise being seeded No. 3 out of the Mountain West I mean if UNLV had defeated them in the title game they wouldn’t be in the tourney. Alabama at Oklahoma 7:30 ET Sooners (+) over Crimson Tide- Alabama is good and much better than most expert thought that they would be and Oklahoma is not so good and most thought they would be contenders for the big title. The Sooners offense is dreadful and it has been just a harding hitting an opportunistic defense that has provided any wins at all. They have been outclassed by Tennessee and destroyed by South Carolina. But, hosting the Crimson Tide in Norman will be a special experience for both the Sooners and the Tide with the home squad being ready and giving an emotion filled effort. Rake OKLAHOMA!

This week the Wildcats set their sights on a Cougars’ squad that has far exceeded expectations winning three times outright as underdogs. Take ARIZONA!

The Lions have underachieved beating up on the little guy and struggling to get to the number against even mediocre competition. USC was caught in a look ahead last week and were defeated by Minnesota 24-17 in a game that was dead even. The Trojans may not be good enough to break into the Top-12 but they can rise here. Utah at Arizona State 10:30 ET Utes (-) over Sun Devils- Upstart Arizona State has shocked the odds makers and betting public alike posting four wins in their five games already more than last season. Utah has been playing without seventh-year red-shirt (freshman?) quarterback Cameron Rising since he was injured in the second quarter of their opening game against Baylor. Arizona State will use their powerful running game with Cam Shattebo who averages 5.5 yard a carry. The Utes have won and covered the last four meetings and are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meets. The Utes have had two week to lick their wounds after being upset by Arizona 23-10. With a fresh attitude and their veteran quarterback returning the Utes roll. Take UTAH!

Over the years the d Raiders have had the best of their renewed rivalry and have won 26 of 33 meetings wit two tie. I was last time these two met was when Clemson who dominated the Seminoles but were forced to kick a short field goal from inside the 20-yard line ....they missed. That was a Megabucks game that got away as Florida State scored in OT and stopped the Tigers. Last season the Seminoles were great but now not so much. The best thing I can say about this match-up is FSU defense might be a hair better. Take FLORIDA STATE!

Northwestern has a defense that can match the Hoosiers but it is on defense that Indiana ha a huge edge ranking 11th with 513 YPG while the Wildcats are 121st averaging only 295 YPG. The Orange led by Ohio State transfer quarterback Kyle McCord has passed for at last 339 yards a game while the Orange have out-gained all opponents by an average 134 yards per game. When I saw this one (spread) come through the ticker I had to do a double-take thinking that maybe I had written the favorites number in the wrong column...no, it was correct the Broncos were better than a TD favorite over the Cougars. Washington State is 4-0 (like last year when they closed 1-7 SU) and is one of two teams in the PAC-12 (Go figure...educators?) that can’t qualify because of their depleted status. The Broncos know a win here moves them in front of the ‘Group of Five’ from non- qualifying conferences. Take BOISE STATE!

Look for decades I hear from the that bunch in South Beach, that the Canes are for ‘real’ they get a QB from Houston and he stinks they finally fire their coach and they play Van Dyke and he gets hurt and then leaves for Wisconsin. How good the Hurricanes, we shall see! Now, it is Cam Ward via Washington State and be might be a good one... but no matter, he gets ‘gobbled-up’! Under new head coach Curt Cignetti the Hoosiers have allowed just 10 points against a pair of weak sisters and last week had their largest margin of victory since 1901.
