At 12:35 pm, our selection is on the Edmonton Oilers over the Ottawa Senators. After their loss to the Kings on January 9, the Oilers were treading water with a .500 record (21-21). But Edmonton finished off the first month of 2023 going 7-1 the rest of the way to up its record to 28-22 putting the Oilers in the top three for Pacific Division title. They lost a tough one in Philly on Thursday, falling to the Flyers in a shootout, 2-1 and now they travel to Ottawa for this Saturday matinee with the Senators. It will be the first meeting of these two Canadian clubs in over a year and the Sens own the last two, having topped the Oilers twice in January of 2022. But that's about all the Senators have managed to do against their rivals recently as the Oilers had won nine straight meetings going back to January of 2021 prior to those two Ottawa victories. And the Oilers have done by far their best work away from Edmonton this season as they are 16-7-2 in 25 games on the road (compared to 13-11-3 in 27 home contests). They are 6-1 in the last seven meetings here in Ottawa. Take the Oilers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.

At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the San Antonio Spurs + the points over the Detroit Pistons. These two teams are among the four teams "competing" for one of the three worst records and, with it, the most combinations in the NBA Draft Lottery -- which is the most highly-anticipated lottery since LeBron James was taken #1 in 2003. The top pick will be Victor Wembanyama, but even the likely 2nd pick (Scoot Henderson) should have a stellar career. From my perspective, any time you can go against one of these four horrible teams (Rockets, Pistons, Spurs, Hornets) as a favorite, you should consider doing so. When you look at this basket of cellar-dwellers, you'll see that they've burned money as a favorite (or PK), going 7-13-1 ATS, including 1-10 ATS vs. a foe off a straight-up loss. Even worse for Detroit: it's gone 0-11 ATS at home when playing a foe off back to back SU/ATS losses, if Detroit wasn't getting 2+ points. Take the Spurs. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

Things looked good for the Wild heading into the All Star break as they won five of their last eight games in January, including victories over the Capitals and Sabres. But February has started out a bit rough for Minnesota. On Monday, the lowly Coyotes pulled off an upset in Arizona to kick off the second half and then last night the Wild traveled to Dallas where the Stars got a big home victory. At least now the team gets to return to Minneapolis where the Wild has done by far its best work, going 15-8-1 in 24 games here at the Xcel Energy Center. The Knights got the month off on the right foot, downing the Predators in Nashville, 5-1. But it's too early to tell if Vegas is out of the terrible funk it was mired in for most of January. Tonight will be a big test for the Knights, who have actually done better on the road this season than at home. Faithful followers know I love playing on bad teams, so tonight we're going to go with the Phoenix, who have the worst record (2-22) in College Basketball. But they're not just bad in Green Bay; they're also bad "in Las Vegas" as they're 6-18 ATS this season, which is the 2nd-worst ATS percentage of the 363 NCAA Division 1 teams (only Tulsa is worse). And they've failed to cover the spread by an average of -5.81 ppg, which ranks #360 of 363 in that metric. So, why take the Phoenix tonight? Because, by my numbers, there's value on them against the Panthers. Additionally, Green Bay was blown out by Milwaukee, 81-67, in the first meeting this season. But in this rivalry, the team which lost the season's first meeting has covered 64% in Round 2, including 6-1 ATS when getting 9+ points. And Green Bay is also 73-45-2 ATS when playing with revenge from a loss by 13+ points. Take Wisconsin-Green Bay + the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

The Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers are now breathing down Boston's neck in the standings (and Boston plays Philly next), so the Celtics know they must play better ASAP if they are to maintain their hold on the #1 spot. We'll lay the points with Boston tonight, as it's 90-54 ATS on the road off a home loss by more than 7 points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

Quinnipiac is laying a bigger number this afternoon, and we'll take Mount St Mary's + the points in a revenge role. Admittedly, the Mountaineers aren't playing their best ball of late. They're 3-9 in league play, and lost by 30 points at Iona on Friday, which was their 3rd straight loss. But the Bobcats are a horrid 7-28 ATS as a favorite vs. foes off a SU/ATS loss, if such foe owned a losing conference record. And they're 19-30-3 ATS when playing a revenge-minded foe they defeated earlier in the season, including 3-9-2 ATS if the Bobcats were off back to back wins. At 6 pm, our selection is on the Massachusetts Lowell River Hawks minus the points over Albany. The River Hawks come into this game off back to back losses. But those two games were on the road. This evening's game is at home, where UMass Lowell is a perfect 11-0 this season. It's also 5-3-1 ATS at home this season, and has covered the spread by an average of 2.66 ppg at home. Albany, on the other hand, is 2-12 SU on the road (and 5-8 ATS), and has failed to cover the spread on the road by an average of 3.42 ppg. Earlier this year, the Great Danes stunned the River Hawks, 89-63, as a 9 point home dog. We'll lay the points River Hawks, as favorites of more than 10 points have covered 62% since 1990 when playing with revenge from an upset loss by more than 15 points earlier in the season. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.
