Taking the RAYS. I think we should get a Rodon sighting. Guy is off 8 innings of shut out ball vs these Rays. Cole also in the mix. We'll see how Boone plays it. Not that it matters to me. We are backing Tampa Bay. TB went 5-2 vs the Yanks here at home and took the season series from them also. On top their AL best 98 wins, they tied the Brewers for league best 55 wins at home. As mentioned, Rodon a gem back when the Yanks took 3 of 4 from Tampa in the Bronx. 2-0 Rodon, 6-1 Rasmussen (tonights starter) over Fried, then 9-2 (Cole vs Englert) 6-4 (Schilittler vs Seymour). At that point, Tampa had already secured the division and was playing out the stretch. The winner of this series should be the AL World Series favorite over either the White Sox or Guardians. That being said, this is going to be a 6-7 game series I feel. Yanks pitching has always been solid. Their offense was the problem especially vs better pitching. They went 35-34 vs teams with .500 records. Tampa, 40-28 in those games. Yanks just clubbed Boston relief pitchers. They didn't do much vs the starters Gray (2 ER) Tolle (1) in winning 9-2 and 9-0. As mentioned earlier, Drew Rasmussen getting the ball here in Game 1. This guy. On any bigger market team, you would know his name. All he has done since comint to Tampa is pitch well. 45-21 2.71 ERA 133 games 111 starts a .99 WHIP and a .210 BA Against. This year a career best .91 WHIP and .199 BAA. Against the Yankees this year. 22 innings 14 hits 7 runs 26 Ks 2-1 with a ND.. His loss, July 9, 2.1 7 hits 6 runs 2 strikeouts. That is fluke - his other 3 starts 19.2 7 hits 1 run and 24Ks. Taking the PADRES on the RL. I will say the same thing I said about the Yanks and Red Sox. And in this case, you nearly get no-hit. But really - the Cubs. Let's be honest. And I am pro Cubs. Last couple years always a future or two floating on these guys. Zero heart. Maybe its because they are just beaten down with a fractured pitching staff. There is zero chance I want to come in on them as any kind of underdog in this spot. As I also wrote yesterday. This Padres team. Just, I mean - who is playing better down the stretch the last month? Taking the PADRES. 17-3 run to end the regular season. These guys. I think these guys are the under the radar team to be afraid of. I had these guy buried in April. I did not think they would even make the playoffs. I didn't think they were better than the Giants! Well, let's play ball and here we are San Diego with home field. Bad spot for Cubbies. In Boston for a double header, then to Tampa for a game. Now out in San Diego. Their pitching has been hanging on by a thread most of the season. PCA had a great year. But, Bregman was solid, Suzuki. This isn't a 1 man team. I just do not trust their pitching vs a Padres team that again, has 3 losses to close out the season. And playoff pressure? They were fighting the Cubs, Phillies and Arizona the entire time. Every game mattered. Think that carries over here. Michael King was a solid 2.74 ERA at home with a 212 BA Against and 1.12 WHIP. Taking the YANKEES on the RL. With Schlittler on the hill tonight no worries about Boston scoring more than 2/3 runs total. They have been struggling of late to push runners across the plate going under in 8 of their last 10 games. They barely got over in those 2 games vs the Cubs. One 4-3 to get over 6.5 and then 6-2 in a terrible spot vs Chicago. In 5 starts, 24.1 innings of work, Cam is 2-1 with a ND. 15 hits and just 2 ERs allowed to go with 27 strikeouts. Taking the SEATTLE MARINERS -- Bryce Miller incredible numbers at home this year. 6 starts, 1.34 ERA in 33.2 innings fo work 17 hits for a .147 BA Against and a .65 WHIP. I know Seattle has been a disappointment. I mean, I have them over 90.5 wins. But Framber has terrible numbers lately (5.15 ERA last 7 starts) His BA Against has been rising every month. Month of April hitters .226. Month of May hitters .255. Month of June hitter 273. Month of July .284. 1 August start, hitters .321 -- On the year 2-4 in 12 road starts 4.68 ERa with a 275 BA Against and a 1.48 WHIP. Mariners need to start winning games.
