I'm playing on BUFFALO. The Sabres have payback on their minds; Ottawa beat them 5-0 in the last meeting. Buffalo goalie Craig Anderson may also have a score to settle. The former Senator has a 5-1 career record against the Sens. (He spent 10 years with Ottawa and this will be the first time he will have faced the Sens since leaving.) While the Sens are off a 5-2 loss, the Sabres are off b2b wins, scoring 11 goals in the process. This season, Anderson is 6-3 with the Sabres. With the Sens likely to go with Forsberg, expect Anderson to provide the home team with an advantage between the pipes. At a pick'em price, I'm backing the revenge-minded Sabres. Payback. 

I'm playing on CAROLINA. The Panthers have taken both this season's meetings. They won 5-2 back in November and then they eked out a 4-3 (OT) win in early January. This evening, I expect the revenge-minded Hurricanes to get some payback. Even factoring in this season's results, the Canes are still 14-6 the past 20 meetings. They're 37-15-2 over the years in the series, here at Raleigh. Carolina plays with three day's rest in between games. They Canes last played on 2/12. That's a nice little break, particularly after they'd dropped three of their previous four. Note that they're 8-2 their last 10, when playing with three or more day's rest in between games. The Panthers, on the other hand, haven't played since 2/1. That 2-week break is far less ideal. A couple of nights ago, you may recall that we played against the Sharks, who were in a similar situation. They lost 3-0. In addition to playing with double revenge and having a home ice and a scheduling advantage, the Canes are also the far healthier team. The Panthers are dominant at home but rather mediocre on the road. The Canes, 16-4-1 here, are tough to beat at home. Expect a win for the home team.

I'm playing on NY. This is hardly a fair fight. The Sabres aren't very good at the best of times. However, they're currently dealing with a number of missing players. The Isles, on the other hand, are relatively healthy. I played against the Oilers in their 2/12 loss at Edmonton. They followed it up with another loss, at Calgary, the next night. Those two losses will ensure that we get maximum effort from the Isles in this one. They can't afford to drop three straight. The last time that they lost two in a row, they promptly halted the skid right there by winning 4-1 their next game. The Sabres actually won their last game, a 5-3 win at Montreal. The Habs are also hurting though and the Sabres are just 2-8 the past 10 times that they scored five or more goals in their previous game. The Isles have won 20 of the past 28 in the series. They'll continue that dominance this evening. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. The Oilers got back on track last game, winning 3-1. I expect them to carry the positive momentum into tonight's game vs. the struggling Sharks. The Sharks are playing their first home game, after playing their last four on the East Coast. In fact, this is the Sharks' first game at all, since 2/1. Prior to the break, the Sharks had dropped five of six. Note that they're just 1-10 their last 11 as underdogs. They're 0-4 their last four as home underdogs, too. While the long break might benefit the Sharks over the long-run, it's likey to lead to some rust tonight. Look for former Shark, Evander Kane and the Oilers to take this one, the road team moving to 5-1 the past six in the series. 

I'm playing on MINNESOTA. These teams will be meeting for the first time this season. The Wild have taken the last three meetings; the most recent was a 7-1 blowout in February of 2020. Nearly two years later, while the Wings may be more competitive, I expect the end result to remain the same. The Wings were able to win b2b games against a banged-up and struggling Philadelphia team. However, this is a big step up in class and the much healthier Wild are red hot. They're 10-2 (10-1-1) their past 12 and are coming off a win over a top tier team (Carolina) on Saturday. With 3.8 per game, the Wild average the third most goals in the NHL. The Wings, who average 2.9 gpg, won't be able to keep up. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. The Hawks are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off b2b losses, the Blues are going to be angry. They're the healthier team. They're also playing at home, which is significant. Chicago is 9-16 on the road. St. Louis is 17-8 at home. Chicago gets outscored by an average of 3.4 to 2.6 on the road. The Blues outscore visiting teams by a 3.8 to 2.6 margin here at St. Louis. The Blues won 1-0 in this season's earlier meeting here but proceeded to lose at Chicago. That was the only recent win by the Hawks in the series, as the Blues have had their number. Expect St. Louis to resume that series dominance this evening, improving to 10-3 its last 13, when playing with revenge. 

I'm playing on BOSTON. When these teams met, at Boston, back in November, the Bruins were -300 favorites. With this afternoon's rematch being played at Ottawa, we're able to get the Bruins at a far more affordable price. Given that they dominate the Senators, regardlesss of venue, I feel that's providing us with very fair value. While the Bruins are missing a couple of key players, they've still got more than enough to take care of an Ottawa team which is also short-handed. The Bruins are 11-1 the last 12 meetings, 6-1 their last seven visits here to Ottawa. They're also 6-1 their past seven, after allowing five or more goals. Off an embarrassing 6-0 loss, expect them to be all business this afternoon. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. The Oilers are going to be in a foul mood. Not only have they dropped both their games, since returning from the Break, but they also haven't forgotten that these same Islander beat them, in OT, to ring in 2022. With the Isles winning that game, the home team improved to 17-4 the last 21 games between these teams. The Oilers are 8-1 the past nine here, at Edmonton. While the Isles beat up on Vancouver on Wednesday, they're just 4-8 when coming off a win by two or more goals. With the Isles also just 1-7 their last eight as road underdogs, look for the revenge-minded and highly motivated Oilers to continue their home ice dominance in the series. 

I'm playing on CALGARY. The Knights won at Edmonton last night. Winning two games in Alberta, in two nights, is rarely easy though. Expect the Flames to get some payback for their province tonight. The Knights are still dealing with some injuries on the blue line. They've historically fared pretty well when playing the second of b2b games. However, they lost their last time in that situation and I expect their current lack of defensive depth to catch up with them here. While last night's shutout was impressive, the Knights are 0-1 this season, when off a shutout victory. Going back further finds that they're only 7-12 their last 19, when off a shutout victory. Entering the break, the Flames had won three straight and five of six. Healthy and refreshed, look for them to avenge a December loss at Vegas. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. The Hawks are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. The Oilers were hot, entering the All Star Game. The last thing they wanted to do was to return from the break and get embarrassed, in front of their home fans. That's what happened. Off last night's 4-0 loss, they're going to be all business tonight. The break can't fix Chiacago's problems. The Hawks are 0-3 their last three, getting outscored by a combined score of 14-5. On the season, they're 5-18 against teams with a winning record. The Oilers are 16-7 (+9.7) the last 23 times that they played the second of b2b games. They handled the Hawks here earlier in the season and they'll do so again tonight. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. While I respect the Knights, I feel that they're a bit over-valued here. The Oilers are healthier and playing at home. The Knights, 2-4 (-2.7) when playing with three or more day's rest in between games, are particularly banged up on the blue line. That will hurt against the supremely talented Oilers. While the Oilers have admittedly been "streaky," they entered the break having won five of six. Captain Connor McDavid said this of the Oilers' curent mood: "We're just finding ways to get wins. We were finding ways to lose games and right now we're finding ways to win games. I feel like everyone in the room, everyone has their confidence back, everyone had their mojo going again, and there's a good feeling in the room right now." They're 10-2 in divisional games and I expect them to improve on those stats this evening. 

I'm playing on NY. This price could easily be higher. Both teams played yesterday. The Isles beat Ottawa 4-1. The Kraken lost a hard-fought 3-2 game, at Boston. Not only are the Isles the superior team, playing on home ice but the b2b situation should favor them, too. They arguably didn't have to work as hard as the Kraken yesterday, got to sleep in their own beds and didn't have any travel. Plus, Seattle is 0-4 since the start of December, when playing the second of b2b games. The Kraken lost those four games by a combined score of 17-6, an average score of to 4.25 to 1.5. The Isles lost their most recent b2b game. However, that was also their fourth game in six days, which is not the case here. They won their previous game, when playing the second of b2b games. The Isles have thrived as favorites as they continue to take care of business against the league's weaker teams. Facing a Kraken team that really struggles on the road, look for the Isles to move to 11-1 their last 12, when listed as the favorite. 

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. This one is a mismatch, in more than one way. The Predators are much stronger and far healthier. Having recently lost at Vancouver, the Predators are going to be highly motivated. The Preds also have both the venue and the schedule in their favor. While the Canucks played Monday against Chicago, the Preds are well-rested. Not only will the Canucks be playing the second of b2b games, but they'll also be playing their third game in the past four days. With all their missing players, that difficult scheduling spot will catch up to them. Since the Canucks beat them here two weeks ago, the Preds have won each of their next two home games by three goals, scores of 4-1 and 5-2. Overall, they're 12-4 their last 16 at home. Payback time. 

I'm playing on NY. Having blown another lead and off b2b losses, the Rangers will be all business this afternoon. Seattle's schedule got a bit thrown off, its last game being ppd by a blizzard. Now, the west-coast based team has to play an early game in the Eastern time zone, at a historic and hostile environment. It's going to prove too much for a team with a 5-11-1-1 road record. The Kraken have pulled off a couple of upsets of late and their off a win in their last game. They haven't been able to follow them up with wins though; they're 1-5 the last six times that they were off a win. The Rangers won 3-1 in the earlier meeting. I see them bouncing back and improving to 6-1 their last seven at home. 

I'm playing on CALGARY. The Canucks managed a victory in their last game. However, they're still a mess, in terms of missing players. They're on the road facing a more talented and far healthier Flames team. The Flames have taken four of the past five meetings here in Calgary. Last time that they gave up five goals, as they did last game, the Flames bounced back with a 7-1 blowout win. Expect them to bounce back with another big victory this evening. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. The Predators are a week too late. If they caught the Oilers last week, they would have faced a struggling team, mired in a losing streak. However, the talented and streaky Oilers have since turned the corner. They beat hated provincial rival Calgary and then rallied to beat Vancouver last game. Off those b2b wins, they've got their momentum back. Yet, we're still getting the Oilers at a very fair price. Consider that they were laying in the -235 range when they hosted the Preds in November. Edmonton won 5-2, continuing a run of recent dominance in the series. (The Oilers have won the past four meetings.) Needless to say, tonight's line is much lower. The Oilers are 10-2 the past 12 times that they allowed two goals or less in their previous game. Expect the "suddenly surging" Oilers to improve on those stats this evening. 

I'm playing on CAROLINA. The Knights are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off a loss last time out, one where they gave up seven goals, the Canes will be in an angry mood. They've only given up five or more goals three times. In both the previous instances, they won the next game. Off a 5-2 loss against Florida in November, the Canes beat Tampa 2-1 their next game. More recently, off a 6-0 loss against Columbus, they bounced back with a 4-1 win in their next game. While the Canes had last night off, the Knights are off a hard-fought win against the Capitals. They're still just 2-5 their last seven. Schedule and venue in their favor, expect the Canes to take this one. 

I'm playing on CALGARY. The Blues weren't pleased to have to cross the border. They won against a short-handed Vancouver team. However, they're now stepping up in class and taking on a stronger, healthier Calgary team. They're also doing so when playing the second of b2b games. The Flames are more talented than their record suggests. Knowing that they'll face these same Blues, at St. Louis, on 1/27, after having played the previous night on 1/26, the Flames know that they need to take advantage of tonight's favorable schedule and venue. Expect them to do exactly that. 

I'm playing on NY. The Rangers haven't lost often recently. One of their lone losses came, at LA, exactly two weeks ago. Tonight, the revenge-minded Rangers get a rematch, on home ice. They'll also have the schedule in their favor. They had last night off while the Kings are off a hard-fought win over the Devils. Note that LA is just 11-18 (-3.4) the past 29 times it played the second of b2b games. Not only are the Rangers capable of being stingy, they can also really score. They scored seven goals last game after having scored six in their previous home game. Expect them to get some payback for the LA loss, improving to 11-5 the past 16 times that they were off a game where they scored four or more goals.

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. The Predators got back on track last game. Schedule, venue and talent in their favor, I expect another victory this evening. The Wings are off an OT loss last night. They're 8-20 the past 28 times that they played the second of b2b games. While the Wings might want to avenge an earlier 5-2 loss, they're just 29-67 the past 2+ seasons, when playing with 'revenge.' The Preds are 8-3 off a win by two or more goals and 11-4 after scoring four or more. With a pair of road games on deck to close out the month, they won't waste this opportunity. 

I'm playing on FLORIDA. The Canucks have a lot working against them here. They're up against a superior opponent, one of the best teams in the league. The Panthers already handled them in the earlier meeting. The Canucks are also playing the first game back from a long road trip. That's never easy. Doing so in front of a half-full stadium doesn't help. Throw in the fact the the Canucks are missing some key players (combination of Covid and injuries) and this is going to be tough The Panthers won 6-0 last night. The last time they played the second of b2b games, they won 9-2. They're 20-4 (+14.4) after scoring four or more goals in their previous game. Everything in their favor, expect more of the same this evening. 

I'm playing on PHILADELPHIA. No question that it's been a tough stretch for the Flyers. Injuries have been significant. I like what I saw from them on Tuesday though, as they earned a point against the Isles. Tonight, they'll face a Columbus team which is also dealing with a number of missing players and which tends to play much worse on the road. Note that the Jackets gave up nine goals last game. While teams are rarely as good or bad as they seem at their best/worst, that's never a good sign. The Flyers have dominated the Jackets, too. They're 4-0 the last four meetings. I expect them to build off Tuesday's improved effort and to finally break through and snap their skid.  

I'm playing on NJ. The Coyotes are terrible on the road. The Devils are respectable at home. In addition to being the stronger team and having home ice advantage, the Devils are also far healthier. The Coyotes continue to deal with numerous missing players. They're 1-5 their last six visits to NJ. Overall, the Coyotes are just 13-40 their last 53 as road underdogs. Off b2b losses and with Carolina on deck, the Devils know they can't afford to take their guests lightly. Expect them to take advantage of the favorable matchup as they get back on track with an important victory. 

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. The Canucks are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off three straight losses, the Predators are going to be in a foul mood. They're still 7-1 their last eight against teams from the West. While I may have won with the Canucks last game, they're still not playing well. They're at the end of a very long road trip, which dates back to last year. They're also still dealing with a number of missing players. Sure, the Preds played yesterday. They're still the much healthier team here though. Typically, when playing the second of b2b games, they've been on the road. They're at home tonight though; they only allow 2.4 gpg here. The Preds are 11-4 their last 15 against teams with a losing record. They're also 7-3 their last 10, after having dropped their previous three games. Expect them to get back on track, at Vancouver's expense. 

I'm playing on CAROLINA. The Canucks are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Vancouver has returned from its break by losing b2b games. This is not the time or place for them to "get healthy." The Canes have dropped two in a row and their last loss was here by a 6-0 score. Off that debacle and with tougher games on deck, they will absolutely be all business in this one. In addition to having the venue in their favor and being the far stronger, healthier and more consistent team, the early start time favors the Canes, over their West-Coast based guests. The fact that they lost in Vancouver will provide even further motivation for the Canes. They're 7-1 their past eight, when off a home loss of three or more goals. Payback time. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. The Leafs are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. The Knights are angry. They're off a 2-1 loss last time out and looking to avenge an earlier 4-0 loss, at Toronto. Note that Vegas is 22-11 (+8.4) the past couple of seasons, after scoring one goal or less, in its previous game. During that span, the Knight sare also 48-28 (+8.7) when attempting to avenge an earlier loss. The Leafs were dominated for most of last game and were fortunate to come away with a point. The Knights won 4-2 the last time the teams met here. I say they finish on top again, moving to 8-1 their last nine, after scoring two goals or less in their previous game. 

I'm playing on COLUMBUS. Home ice means a lot to both these teams. They just faced each other, at NJ, on Thursday. Playing on home ice, the Devils won by a 3-1 score. With this evening's rematch being played at Columbus, I expect the Jackets to return the favor. The Devils are 5-11 on the road. They get outscored by an average of 4.1 to 2.6. The Jackets are 10-6 at home. They outscore visiting teams by a 3.6 to 3.1 margin. The Jackets are 6-4 (+2.5) their last 10, when off a loss of two or more goals. During that span, the Devils are 1-6 (-6.9) when off a win by two or more. Look for the revenge-minded Jackets to bounce back, improving to 6-1 their last seven, after scoring one goal or less in their previous game. 

I'm playing on COLORADO. Both teams have been winning. I expect the Avalanche to be the team which continues to do so. The Leafs were a little fortunate to beat Edmonton last game. They had a couple of fortunate bounces, which led to goals, and were arguably outworked. There was nothing "lucky" about the Avs' last win though. They crushed Winnipeg by a score of 7-1. This is a team currently firing on all cylinders. The Avs, 5-0 their last five against teams from the Eastern Conference, haven't forgotten that the Leafs embarrassed them (8-3) at Toronto. They're 42-21 (+15.6) the past few seasons, when playing with revenge. They've been dominant on home ice, outscoring teams by a 4.8 to 2.5 margin. More of the same this evening. 

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. This one sets up very nicely for the Predators. The Preds played games on 12/29 and 12/30, before having yesterday off. The fact that they lost both games will help to make the Preds hungry here. On the other hand, the Hawks haven't played since way back on 12/18. They're going to be dealiing with some rust. While Nashville is 9-5 at home, Chicago is 5-11 on the road. The Preds are 7-1 the past eight times that they hosted the Hawks, 4-0 the last four meetings here. They won the last two games here by a combined score of 8-2. Schedule in their favor, expect them to continue that home ice series dominance. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. Clear talent edge for the visitors. We're getting the Oilers at a reasonable price, due to this game being played at New Jersey. Yet, the Devils have little to no home ice advantage; the Oilers' road record is still better than NJ's home record. After a long break, the Oilers were a bit rusty, out of the gate, in their first game back. They quickly dug themselves an early hole and ultimately lost to the Blues. That loss will ensure that they're hungry for this one. The last thing they want to do is close out the year on a losing streak. The Devils managed a win in their first game back. However, that was against Buffalo, another bad team. They'd previously lost six straight and they're 0-4 the past four times that they were off a win. The Oilers won the most recent two meetings (both in 2019) and they're 6-2 the past eight in the series. Expect McDavid and co. to bounce back. 

I'm playing on LA. These teams met a few weeks ago, on 12/6, at Vancouver. The Kings were off a win, at Edmonton, the night (12/5) before. The Canucks had that night off, after having lost 4-1 on 12/4. This one has the opposite setup. This time, the Kings are at home. This time, the Kings had last night off, after having lost the previous night. Meanwhile, the Canucks are off a win, at Anaheim last night. After having had an extended break, playing two games in two nights may be a bit tough. Last night, the Canucks were in the 'revenge' role. Tonight, it's the Kings looking to get some payback. Schedule and venue in their favor, look for them to get some. 

I'm playing on WINNIPEG. The Jets are going to be very hungry to snap their losing streak. They were a little shocked by their coach leaving and lost Friday's game. However, they've now had time to digest the news and will be anxious to get the first win of the "new era." The Jets had 41 shots in this season's first meeting but lost in a shootout. That result will provide even further motivation. While the Jets are dealing with a few injuries, they're still the healthier team in this matchup. While they've found ways to win, the Blues are missing a lot. It'll catch up to them here. Heathier, hungrier and playing at home, expect the Jets to get it done. 

I'm playing on DALLAS. The Stars have a number of things going for them. They're arguably the stronger team and they're playing at home. They're also the healthier team. Additionally, they've got the schedule in their favor. Yes, both teams played yesterday. However, the Hawks also played Wednesday, while the Stars had both Wednesday and Thursday off. So, while both teams are playing the second of b2b games, the Hawks are also playing their third game in four days. That's when their extra injuries and the fact that they're playing on the road, will catch up with them. Note that both Chicago's last two games went to overtime, too. So, they've been very hard fought and there's been some extra minutes. Off five straight losses, the Stars are going to be desperate. Knowing that they'll face these same Hawks, at Chicago, in less than a week, look for the Stars to take care of business on home ice here. 

I'm playing on SJ. Canuck fans are loving their new coach. Certainly, the team has turned things around since Boudreau took over. I expect the Sharks to cool them off this evening though. In addition to playing at home, the Sharks are the healthier team. Off a loss, they're going to be hungry. They're 6-4 (+2.4) off a loss of two or more goals. All five of the Canucks' wins, on their current 5-game winning streak, have come at home. They've also got a home game vs. Toronto on deck, always one of the biggest games of the year for the home fans. The Canucks are still being outscored 3.6 to 2.6 on the road. Look for SJ to take this one. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. Jackets are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off six straight losses, the talented Oilers are going to be in desperation mode tonight. They can't afford to keep losing. They're 29-15 (+12.8) their last 44, when off a loss by two or more goals. During that span, they're 35-20 (+12.1) after allowing four or more goals in their previous game. The Jackets give up a whopping 4.1 goals per game on the road. The Oilers hav dominated them here over the years (22-8 L30) and that continues tonight. 

I'm playing on FLORIDA. The Kings played Tampa tough last game but ultimately fell short. Now, they'll face an angry Florida team, one which is dominant on home ice. Off a loss against Ottawa, the Panthers will be in a foul mood. They're 43-20 (+20.3) the past 2+ seasons, after allowing four or more goals. While the Kings average just 2.3 goals per game on the road, the Panthers average 4.3 gpg here at home. They'll bounce back. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. Payback time. The champs recently suffered an embarrassing loss against these same Senators, at Ottawa. It was at the end of a road trip and they got caught sleeping. It won't happen again. Tampa is 45-18 (+17.8) the past 63 times it played with revenge, 4-0 the past four. The Sens followed up their win over TB with an unlikely win at Florida. They're still 6-23 the past 29 times that they were off a win of two or more goals though. While the Sens allow 3.7 gpg on the road, the Bolts allow 2.5 per game at home Tampa rolls. 

I'm playing on CAROLINA. This line could easily be higher. The Canes were -365 the last time that they hosted the Wings. In fact, they've been at least -355 each of the past three meetings. Off a loss, they're going to be hungry. Both teams are dealing with missing players but the Canes will still have the talent edge. They're allowing 2.1 goals per game at home compared to Detroit's 4.1 gpg allowed on the road. Canes win. 

I'm playing on DALLAS. Home ice is very important to both these teams. The Stars are 9-3 at home but 4-9 on the road. The Blues are 10-5 at home but 5-8 on the road. A closer look shows that the Stars are 8-0 their last eight here while the Blues are 0-6 their last six, away from St. Louis. While they have a few games in hand, the Stars know that they're looking up at the Blues in the standings. Off three straight road losses, they're going to be thrilled to be back home. The Stars know that they'll face these same Blues, at St. Louis, on Friday. That makes taking care of business imperative. The Stars are the healthier team and they're going to be hungry. Expect home ice to prove significant. 

I'm playing on NY. The Islanders have finally gotten back on track. Now, they will exact some revenge for an OT loss against the Wings, 10 days ago. That Dec. 4th loss notwithstanding, the Isles have still taken seven of the last nine meetings with Detroit. Since that 12/4 game, the Wings have gotten progressively worse, defensively. Over their last three games, they've allowed five, six and seven goals. Giving up 18 goals in three games doesn't cut it. Look for the revenge-minded Isles to kick their hosts while they're down, improving to 5-0 the past five times that they faced an opponent which allowed five or more goals in its previous game. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. Kings are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. The champs just got shut out by Ottawa. They're going to be all business here. The Lightning rarely play two bad games in a row and they're a perfect 8-0 their last eight games against the Kings. While they've won a couple at home, note that the Kings lost 4-0, at Vancouver, in their most recent road game. Considering that the Bolts were laying -277 and -335 for the past two games here, this price could easily be higher. Expect the Lightning to continue their dominance in the series. 

I'm playing on CALGARY. The Bruins were fortunate to escape Edmonton with a win. They'll face a hungry Calgary team tonight. The Flames lost 2-1 (OT) last time out, their third straight loss. They already blanked Boston earlier and they're 6-1 the last seven times that they held their previous opponent to three or fewer goals. Look for the favorite to improve to 7-2 the last nine meetings between these teams. 

I'm playing on PHILADELPHIA. The Flyers finally snapped their 10-game losing streak. That monkey off their back and momentum restored, I expect them to make it two in a row. Like the Flyers, the Coyotes also played yesterday. The Coyotes can't score. They've managed only one goal in each of their past three games. They've scored two or less in six straight. The Flyers already blanked them (3-0) in the earlier meeting. We're getting them at a much better price this time, due to the game being at Arizona. The Coyotes have no home ice advantage though. They're 3-14 their last 17 at home. Flyers roll. 

I'm playing on NY. Needless to say, home ice has not been kind to the Islanders. They're rested and they're catching the Devils off a hard-fought loss last night. The last time that the Devils played the second of b2b games, they allowed eight goals. Isles are 24-9 their last 33 against NJ and 13-3 the last 16 times that they were a host in the series. Enough's enough. Schedule in their favor, they'll continue that series dominance and get that elusive home win, finally. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. The Blues have been batttling with some top tier teams lately. Their last four games have all been against the "Florida" teams. The Red Wings represent a big drop in class. Playing with revenge from a loss at Detroit on 11/24, the Blues are going to be all business tonight. That 11/24 victory over the Blues triggered a 5-game winning streak for the Wings. That streak came to an end, along with their momentum, last game though. The Wings are an awful 13-57 their last 70 as road underdogs. When considering that the Blues were laying -365 the last time that these teams played here, a 5-2 win for the Blues, this price could easily be higher. Blues roll. 

I'm playing on NY. The Isles got back on track in a big way, at Ottawa, last game. They scored five goals, most in quite some time. Losing streak snapped, now they will go after their first home win. I expect a highly motivated effort. Not only do the Isles desperately want that first home win, they've also got a score to settle with the Predators. They outshot the Preds by a wide margin (36-23) in an October 30 game, at Nashville. The Isles led most of the way including for more than half the third period. The Preds tied it though and ultimately won in a shootout. Barry Trotz, who once was with Nashville, badly wants to beat his old team, as they've had his number. With the Preds 0-5 the past five times that they face an opponent which scored five or more in its previous game, look for the revenge-minded Isles to finally get that first home win.

I'm playing on COLUMBUS. Given how strong the Jackets have been on home ice, this is excellent value. Columbus is 9-3 at home and has outscored visiting teams by an average score of 3.8 to 2.6. Those are dominant numbers. Yet, due to the Jackets' really poor road record, which brings their overall record down, we're still able to get them at this price. Meanwhile, the Ducks are just 5-7 on the road; they've been outscored by an average of 3.7 to 3.3 in their road games. The Ducks are off a 2-0 win. However, they last time that they were off a shutout, they lost 5-1 in their next game. They're 2-5 their last seven, off a shutout win. Knowing that they've got a long road trip following this game, the Jackets are going to be very hungry. They're 9-4 against teams from the West and I expect them to improve on those stats this evening. 

I'm playing on NY. I've lost with the Islanders a couple times of late. I kept thinking that they would get their first home win. That won't prevent me from taking advantage of a very favorable setup for them tonight though. Perhaps, there was some added pressure of playing at home. That's off now. This evening's game will be played at Ottawa. The Sens are only 4-8 here though, 2-8 their last 10 as home underdogs. So, they don't exactly have much of a home ice advantage. Importantly, the Sens are also off a hard-fought (SO) road win, last night. The Isles were resting. Waiting. It's more than just a b2b spot for the Sens though. It's only the seventh day of December and this will already be Ottawa's fifth game. That's a lot of hockey over the course of a week; I expect it to catch up to them. The Isles have taken six of the past seven meetings. They'll have the fresher legs and will improve on that record this evening. 

I'm playing on VANCOUVER. Better late than never. The Canucks finally fired their coach and GM, something they probably should have done some time ago. That often lights a spark, at least in the first game, for a struggling team. I expect that to be the case tonight. The Canucks are certainly more talented than their record suggests and the Kings are a great opponent to ring in the new era against, particularly when the Canucks are catching them off a road win last night. In fact, the Canucks have beaten the Kings five straight times. Schedule and venue in their favor, they'll make it six tonight. 

I'm playing on WASHINGTON. Last time out, the Capitals bounced back from a rare 2-game losing streak. They'll be business tonight, as they're playing with revenge. The Ducks beat them, in OT, a few weeks ago. They're not about to let the Ducks sweep the season series. Note that the previous game is at Anaheim, where the Ducks have been much better this season. Including the last game, the home team is 7-2 the last nine meetings. Currently, the Caps are 5-1 their last six at home. Home ice proves the difference, once again. Caps roll. 

I'm playing on NJ. The Senators are in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Off three straight losses and with more difficult games on deck, the Devils absolutely cannot afford to squander tonight's winnable game. Keep in mind that the Sens are 14-46 their last 60 on the road. The Devils have beaten them the last two meetings and four of the past five. Look for them to do it again, the Sens falling to 1-7 their last eight, after allowing five or more goals in their previous game.

I'm playing on NY. Both teams lost yesterday. Both are coming in hungry. The Isles figure to be more "desperate" though. They badly want their first home victory and they know this is a great opportunity to get it. Indeed, the Hawks are 3-9 on the road and they've got a -22 goal differential on the season. (Same as NY.) The Hawks are also 1-5 their last six with no rest in between games. The Isles have gotten healthy. They beat the Hawks 4-1 in this season's earlier meeting and that will help provide them with some much needed confidence. Knowing that their next game is back on the road, look for them to "leave everything on the ice," en route to finally securing their first home win. 

I'm playing on NY. Still searching for their first home win, the Isles are going to be extremely hungry. The Sharks figure to be the perfect opponent to get that elusive first win against. The home team is a perfect 5-0 the past five meetings between the teams. The Isles are 5-1 the past six times that they were the host. The Isles won their last three home games against the Sharks by a combined score of 13-4. The Isles were shutdown due to Covid protocol for a bit. That was a good thing as it has allowed them to get a number of key players back, ones which they were really missing. Refreshed and highly motivated, expect the Isles to continue their "home ice dominance" over the Sharks. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. While the Ducks may be at home, the Knights have the schedule working in their favor. They're well-rested. Their last game was on 11/27 and their previous game was on 11/24. That's not the case for the Ducks. They're off a shootout win last night and will now be playing their third game in four days. The Ducks have only played b2b games once this season. That happened to be against these same Golden Knights, at Vegas. Schedule in its favor, Vegas won. The Knights have also fared well here, at Anaheim. In fact, they won the last three games here by a combined score of 14-3. They're 5-0 the past five meetings overall and 9-1 the past 10. Having lost the 11/27 game, the Knights are going to be hungry. They're a perfect 5-0 the past five times that they scored two goals or less in their previous game. Schedule in their favor, I expect them to improve on those stats and continue their dominance in this series. 

I'm playing on COLORADO. Nashville is in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Both teams played yesterday. The Predators won, the Avalanche lost. That's going to ensure we see a hungry, motivated Colorado team. Note that the Avs are a perfect 5-0 their last five, when playing the second of b2b games. Even without McKinnon, this team is still loaded. The Avs have won the past three meetings by a combined score of 17-6. They scored nine goals (9-4 win) the last time that these teams met here. Expect them to finish on top, once again. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. While they won for me a few games back, the Blues have since cost me. Still, this is a great spot for them to bounce back. Both teams played yesterday. The Jackets won while the Blues lost in OT. That, already, should help provide St. Louis with some added motivation. Further incentive stems from the fact that Columbus won it OT, when these teams met earlier. I like the fact that the Blues are at home and also that their Friday game was earlier in the day than Columbus' game. With the Jackets just 1-6 the past seven times that they played the second of b2b games, look for the revenge-minded Blues to bounce back. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. The Blues need to get back on track and a trip to Chicago figures to be just what the doctor ordered. St. Louis has beaten Chicago five staight times. In three of those games, Chicago failed to score a single goal. Both teams lost last time out. The Hawks fell 5-2 to Calgary while St. Louis lost 4-2 to Detroit. The Blues are 4-2 after allowing four or more goals though while the Hawks are just 2-8 in that situation. With the Hawks just 1-6 against winning teams, expect the Blues to continue their series dominance. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. I've successfully played against the Wings in three of their last four games. They lost all four. The Wings gave up five goals in each of three games that I played against them. While I don't mean to keep picking on (against) them, this is another tough spot. This is Detroit's first game back from a road trip and first since an OT loss on 11/20. That's often difficult, particularly for a team which is weary from having played a lot of games. (While the Wings have had a few days off, they're still tied for the most games played in the league.) Note that Detroit is 2-8 its last 10, with three or more day's rest in between games. Getting home right before the holiday is nice for the players but less than ideal for tonight's game. Relief is in sight. The Wings get a couple days off after this and then they face the Sabres on Saturday. That should provide a good chance to snap the skid. Tonight's game against the Blues figures to be far more challenging. I successfully played on the Blues in their last game and I really liked what I saw from them. They spotted Vegas two goals and then scored five straight. Coach Berube also liked what he saw: "We ended up coming back and guys did a nice job." The Blues know they need to keep the pedal to the metal and take advanage of this winnable game. They've won five of the past six meetings with their old Norris rivals; the road team is 12-4 the last 16. More of the same tonight. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. The Golden Knights have done a great job. Despite dealing with a ton of injuries, they've managed to stay competitive. This is a tough venue though. I expect all those missing players to catch up to the Knights. The Blues already won at Vegas. Off a loss at Dallas, they're going to be hungry. The last time that they were on home ice, they beat the Sharks 4-1. The favorite is 11-3 the last 14 meetings between these teams. Healthier, hungrier and playing at home, the Blues improve on those stats Monday night.

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. The Ducks had been hot but the Predators are favored for good reason. Off b2b losses, Nasvhille is going to be hungry. The Ducks are also off a loss. However, they'd won eight straight, prior to that. So, they won't have the same sense of urgency. A closer look shows that Anaheim has been playing a lot of home games while Nasvhille has been playing a lot on the road. The shoe's on the other foot tonight though which is significant as the home team has seven of the past eight meetings. The Preds are 5-1 the last six meetings here, at Nashville. The Preds have only played one home game in November and that resulted in a 4-1 win. Expect them to bounce back with an important win tonight. 

I'm playing on VANCOUVER. This one sets up very nicely for the home team. The Canucks had been working hard but not getting rewarded for it. Last game, catching a Winnipeg team playing the second of b2b games, they broke through with a well deserved victory. That snapped their losing streak and provides some much-needed positive momentum. They had last night off. Knowing that they hit the road after this, the Canucks know that they need to make the most of tonight's favorable matchup. Once again, the Canucks catch a team playing the second of b2b games. I played against the Hawks last night, noting that it was a playoff rematch from last year. So, there was some extra intensity. Off that 5-2 loss, the Hawks have no time to catch their breath. They're 0-5 the past five times that they played the second of b2b games. The Hawks are also 0-5 their last five visits to Vancouver. It's always a big game for the Canucks and their fans; they won those five games by a combined score of 23-11, all five victories coming by multiple goals. More of the same tonight. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. The Hawks have won a few recently. This is still a team with issues though. Chicago still has a -16 goal differential. Tonight, they'll face a loaded Edmonton team which is a dominant 7-1 at home. Overall, the Oilers have a +15 goal differential. The Oilers have had this game circled. That's because the Hawks upset them in last year's playoffs. The series was played at Edmonton (one of two "hub cities") and the Oilers were heavily favored. They haven't forgotten and tonight they exact a small measure of revenge. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. I've successfully played against the Wings in each of their last two games. They gave up five goals in both and are allowing an average of more than four goals per game, on the road. While I don't mean to keep picking on (against) them, this is another tough spot. Off a 4-2 loss to Carolina and looking to avenge an earlier loss at Detroit, the Knights are going to be all business. They're 44-26 their last 70 in the revenge role. During that span, they're also 34-20 (+7.1) afrer allowing four or more goals. During that span, the Wings are 14-49 (-24.8) after allowing four or more goals. Vegas rolls. 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. These teams just faced each other, at Winnipeg. The Jets won 5-2. The Oilers are much better at home though and they've got a score to settle. Not only did the Jets just beat them but the Jets also upset them in last year's playoffs. Enough's enough. Tonight, the revenge-minded Oilers get some payback. While Edmonton is 6-1 at home, the Jets are 2-4 on the road. The Jets may have won three straight. However, they're just 6-12 the past couple of seasons, when off three or more consec. wins. Going back further finds them at a money-burning 32-45 (-19.5) in that situation. The Oilers are an oustanding 27-12 (+14.2) their last 29, when off a loss of two or more goals. Expect them to bounce back and improve on those stats this evening. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. The Blues are healthier and I expect them to be hungrier. Playing at home, I expect that to translate to a victory. On a 4-game skid, the Sharks are exactly the team which the Blues want to see. They've beaten SJ three straight times. Most recently, they won 5-3, at SJ, exactly two weeks ago. In the middle of a long road trip, the Sharks are growing a little road-weary. Note that they're 0-4 their last four, when playing with one day in between games.  St. Louis defenseman Torey Krug, who recently returned from COVID-19, had this to say: "We've got to stop this before it gets out of hand, and we will. That's the resilience of this group. A big game on Thursday." Expect Krug and co. to do exactly that. 

I'm playing on SEATTLE. I successfully played against the Kraken in their very first ever game and noted that things "wouldn't be easy for them this season." That's proven to be the case, thus far. Off four straight losses, they're currently 4-10-1. That said, I like how this one sets up for them. They're going to be highly motivated to snap their skid and Chicago is a team which they match up well against. While Chicago may have earned a few recent wins, the Hawks are still 4-11 vs. the moneyline this season, same as Seattle. The Hawks' -18 goal differential is the second worst (behind Arizona) in the West. After a rare three game winning streak, the Hawks probably would have liked to keep playing. Instead, they've been off since 11/12. Therefore, its worth mentioning that they're just 1-6 the past seven times that they played with three or more day's rest in between games. Also, those wins all came at Chicago. The Hawks, still dealing with fallout from the scandal, have yet to win a road game; they're 0-5-1 (0-6 vs. ml) on the road. Seattle coach Dave Hakstol noted: "Right now we're playing pretty good hockey, and we haven't had any results to show for it ..." I say Hakstol's team digs deep and gets the "W."

I'm playing on DALLAS. I successfully played against the Wings last night and I believe they're headed towards another loss tonight. Last night's game was a tough one to lose. The Wings had a 2-0 lead early. Then, after the game had been tied 2-2 for some time, they took a 3-2 lead late in the third. The Jackets didn't blink though and rallied, again. Detroit coach Blashill commented: "...we got slapped in the face tonight." That's a tough loss to immediately bounce back from, when playing their second game in two nights and third in the past four. The Wings are now an awful 12-55 their last 67, as road underdogs. Unlike Detroit, Dallas is off a 5-2 win and is well-rested. In recent years, the Stars have dominated the Wings here. Schedule in their favor, the continues tonight.

I'm playing on COLUMBUS. With the Red Wings having won a few games recently, we're able to get the Blue Jackets at a very reasonable price. Consider that earlier in 2021, Jackets were laying -178 when facing the Wings. In 2020, they were -360 for a game against the Wings here. I feel this evening's much lower price is providing excellent value. Note that most of the Wings' recent success was at home. They're still 7-17 their last 24 on the road. Going back further finds them at a dismal 12-54 their last 66 as a road underdog. The Wings are also 1-5 their last six visits to Columbus, 2-8 their last 10 here. Off b2b losses and knowing that they hit the road after this, the Jackets are going to be desperate to earn the full two points. Remember, before those two losses, they'd beaten the Avs in b2b games. Detroit arguably represents a step down in class from the teams they've faced this month. The favorite is 42-16 the last 58 meetings between these teams. I expect those stats to improve. Jackets win. 

I'm playing on COLORADO. While the line may seem steep, it could easily be much higher. Consider that Colorado was laying -320 the last time the teams played here and -330 for the one before that. The Avs are a much stronger team and they're playing at home. They put it all together last time out, playing up to their potential and looking like the best team in hockey. The result was a 7-1 victory. However, having lost their previous two games, the Avs aren't about to relax. I played against the young Sharks last game and pointed out that they're still dealing with a number of absent players. Even when healthy, the Sharks never fare well here. The Avs are 7-0 the past seven meetings here. Five of those wins came by three or more goals and four by shutout. Again, this line could easily be higher. Avs roll. 

I'm playing on DALLAS. I successfully played against the Stars in their last game. However, that was their first game back home from a road trip and they were facing a well-rested opponent. This one sets up much differently. The Stars have now gotten that "first game back home from a road trip" out of the way. Off b2b losses, they're going to be hungry. They've had the past two day's off. So, they're going to be fresh. On the other hand, the Flyers are off a hard-fought upset win against Carolina. They're now playing their second game in two days and third in the past four. Over the past couple of seasons, the Flyers are 11-17 (-6.8) when playing the second of b2b games. During that span, the Stars were 14-9 when playing with two day's rest. Flyers are dealing with a few injuries and it catches up with them here. 

I'm playing on WINNIPEG. I won with the Jets in their last game. I liked what I saw from them in that 4-1 win and I expect them to carry the positive momentum into this evening's game. The Kings have quietly been on an extended winning. The last time that beat them? These same Winnipeg Jets, way back on Oct 28th. I expect the Jets to now be the team which ends LA's streak. Note that LA is just 4-11 its last 15 visits here. While they've been winning, the Kings are dealing with some injuries. They've also been on the road for awhile. It all catches up with them tonight. Jets roll. 

I'm playing on WINNIPEG. Having already been beaten by the Sharks twice this season, the Jets are going to be all business tonight. While the Sharks upset Calgary on Tuesday, they're 1-5 their last six, when playing with one day's rest in between games. To their credit, the Sharks have managed to keep winning some games. However, they're currently still playing without a number of players. It should be mentioned that both this season's previous meetings were at San Jose. Healthier, hungrier and now playing at home, expect the revenge-minded Jets to take this one.

I'm playing on CALGARY. This is hardly a fair fight. Indeed, the line could easily be higher. In addition to being the strong team and having home ice advantage, the Flames are healthy. The Sharks are anything but. Its been catching up with them as the Sharks are off b2b losses. Having scored only two goals last game, note that SJ is just 3-10 its past 13, after scoring two goals or less. The Flames, on the other hand, are off a dominating 6-0 victory. The Flames are doing it all right now. This is a highly favorable matchup and they'll keep on rolling for at least another night. 

I'm playing on MONTREAL. The Kings come in as the hotter team but the Habs are favored for good reason. Note that the favorite has won nine of the past 13 meetings between these teams. While Montreal had last night off, the Kings are off a big upset win at Toronto. The last time that the Kings played a road game, after having played the previous night, they allowed seven goals. Prior to their home win over Buffalo on Halloween, the Kings had been horrific in b2b spots, dating back to last February. Off b2b losses, the Canadiens need this game a lot more than the Kings. The fact that the Kings already beat them adds even further motivation. Schedule and venue in their favor, expect the revenge-minded Habs to dig deep and earn the important victory. 

I'm playing on WASHINGTON. With the price falling from its opener, I believe we're getting excellent value with the home team. Off b2b tough losses against the Florida teams, the Capitals are going to be all business for this one. Note that they're 31-19 (+6.4) their last 50, after allowing four or more goals. While the Flyers are getting outscored by an average of 2.7 to 2.2 on the road, the Caps are outscoring visiting teams by an average score of 3.2 to 2.2 here at home. The Caps have won six of the last seven meetings with the Flyers. Expect them to get it done again today. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. Off a loss to the Leafs and with a pair of tougher games on deck, the champs will be all business this afternoon. They're a dominant 22-4 (+15.8) the past few seasons, after scoring one goal or less in their previous game. While the Lightning are off a 2-1 loss, the Sens are off a 5-1 loss. Unlike their guests, the Sens don't tend to fare well, when coming off a poor offensive showing. They're just 7-24 (-14.6)  the past couple of seasons, after scoring one goal or less. While the price may seem steep, keep in mind that Tampa was laying as much as -470 in a 2019 meeting between these teams. TB won each of the past two meetings and four of the past five. Tampa bounces back. 

I'm playing on ST. LOUIS. With the Blues on the road and off a game last night, we're getting them at a very reasonable price. I'm not overly concerned with last night's game; the fact that the Blues lost will have them hungry tonight. Off their only previous loss, they responded by shutting out their next opponent. As for the b2b spot, keep in mind that the Blues were very well rested before last night, as they hadn't played since 10/30. They actually don't typically fare well when playing with three or more day's rest, as they're now 3-10 their last 13 in that situation. However, they've been better when playing the second of b2b games; they're 12-6 their last 18 in that situation. This isn't an easy spot for the Sharks. Not only are they up against a superior opponent but they've got a number of players out with Covid. They survived against lesser opponents but it catches up with them tonight. The Blues have won six of their last seven visits here. Expect them to continue that success. 

I'm playing on TORONTO. Home ice tends to be significant when these teams play each other and I expect that to again be the case on Tuesday. The favorite is 6-0 in six meetings. The Leafs won four of those six, including all three here at Toronto. Tonight, they are the healthier team. Though they've managed to win a few games recently, the Knights continue to deal with considerable personnel issues. Indeed, already ravaged by injuries, they're now also without defenseman Karlsson. It'll catch up with them here. Note that the Leafs are off a 5-4 win and that the Knights are 0-4 their last four against teams which scored five or more goals in their previous game. Leafs roll. 

I'm playing on CHICAGO. Needless to say, its been a tough start to the season for the Hawks. Yet, they're favored here for a reason. A visit from the Senators represents the perect opportunity to get that elusive first victory. The Senators have been on the road awhile now and it'll be starting to catch up with them. They last played a home game on October 16th. The Hawks have beaten the Sens six straight times and they're 9-1 the last 10 meetings at Chicago. Expect a highly motivated effort to lead to much-needed victory.

I'm playing on TAMPA. The Capitals have gotten off to a strong start and are certainly not to be taken lightly. The recent injury to Oshie hurts though, particularly when already without Backstrom. Worse for the visitors, the champs have turned the corner and are of b2b 5-1 victories. The Lightning followed up a 5-1 win over Pittsburgh with a 5-1 victory over Arizona. The Lightning already won a close one earlier at Washington.  Playing at home, where they now have that elusive first victory under their belts, I say they do it again tonight. 

I'm playing BOSTON on the moneyline. Give the Panthers credit. Off to a great start, they got blindsided with the loss of their coach. (Quenneville is gone due to his alleged involvement or knowledge in helping to cover up a sex abuse scandal, while he was with the Blackhawks.) Yet, despite the distraction, the Panthers won. Again. They're undefeated. Tonight, however, it catches up with them. Last night's game was against a relatively weak oppoinent. Now, playing the second game in two nights, the Panthers step up in class. Winning at Boston is rarely easy. While they've struggled on the road, the Bruins are already 2-0 at home. Note that the Bruins are playing with recent revenge from a loss at Florida. Schedule and venue in their favor, expect them to hand the Panthers their first loss. 

I'm playing on DALLAS. The Stars have payback on their minds, as the Sens beat them in Ottawa. Factoring in that result, the home team is a perfect 6-0 the last six meetings between these teams. The last two games here at Dallas have gone to the Stars. This one will be a little different as its the first time in 597 days that the Sens will have played south of the border. That presents some extra challenges for an Ottawa team already struggling defensively. The Stars can't afford to drop another game to the lowly Sens. Expect them to dig deep and get the "W." 

I'm playing on NASHVILLE. The Sharks came back down to earth in their last game, losing at Boston. Still, its already been an excellent and lengthy road trip. That means a couple of things. First, they're probably starting to get tired and look forward to getting home to the West Coast. Consider that the Sharks are just 1-8 their last nine, when playing the fourth game in a four games in six nights situation. Second, having already accomplished more than they had hoped for on the trip, there shouldn't be any real sense of urgency. On the other hand, the Predators dropped four of their first five. They bounced back with a big win last time out, providing momentum. However, they know they need to string together some victories and that this is a game they need to take advantage of. Note that the Preds are 12-2 their last 14, when playing the third leg of a 3-games-in-4-nights spot. The Preds are also a dominant 17-5 their last 22 as as host in this series. They won the last two meetings here by scores of 5-2 and 3-1. More of the same tonight. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. The Sabres got off to a surprisingly great start. The Bruins (and then Devils) brought them back down to earth though and now they're facing the defending champs. Buffalo is still not a good team. Tampa still is. The Lightning are going to be in an angry mood and they will take it out on the Sabres. They almost always do. They're 21-5 the past 26 meetings, a perfect 7-0 the past seven. The Lightning have actually fallen behind in every game so far this season, something which won't continue. As coach Cooper commented: "There are games you don't get the lead in, it just so happens to be the first five of the year. But give our guys credit, they picked up five points. That's a good sign." Overall, TB is 51-13 its past 64 against teams from the Atlantic. I see the Lightning getting off to a faster start and improving on those stats tonight. 

I'm playing on BOSTON. The Sharks have enjoyed a remarkable road trip. They've already achieved more than they could have hoped for. An early game at Boston should be the end of their winning streak though. The Bruins are a perfect 7-0 the past seven meetings. While the Bruins scored 15 in the last three meetings alone, the Sharks were limited to one goal or less in five of the past six meetings. While they had Saturday off, the Sharks will still be playing their fourth game in the past six days. They're 1-7 their last eight in that situation. Bruins roll. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. The Knights still aren't 100% healthy. However, they're healthier than they've been. Tonight, they've got both the venue and the schedule in their favor. While the Knights are well-rested, the Oilers are off a win last night. To their credit, they've gotten off to a great start. However, this will be their third game in four nights and its also Friday night in Vegas. Remember, the team didn't play outside of Canada last year. This is the first chance for some of the players to get to Sin City in a while. It should be easy to be thinking ahead to what the rest of the evening might bring. Whether or not the city of Las Vegas proves to be a distraction, this is no easy place to play and the Knights are going to be very hungry. They've beaten the Oilers four of the past five meetings. They're also 20-10 (+7) their last 30, after scoring one goal or less in their previous game, 41-20 (+16.8) all time in that situation. The Oilers are 77-100 (-37.2) over the years, when off three or more straight wins. Knights win. 

I'm playing on TORONTO. While they've been playing well, this is a very difficult spot for the Sharks. Not only are they playing at a tough venue, but they're also playing their second game in two nights. They managed a win at Ottawa last night but are now taking a significant step up in class. They're 4-13 the last 17 times that they played the second of b2b games. Unlike their guests, the Leafs are well-rested. Off an OT loss to the Rangers here in their last game, they're going to be hungry. The home team has won six of the past seven meetings. Look for the Leafs to have the fresher legs and for them to provide a reality check for these young Sharks.

I'm playing on WINNIPEG. After a disappointing end to last year, the Jets were hoping to get off to a fast start to this season. That hasn't happened, as they've dropped their first few games. The first of their losses came at the hands of these same Ducks. That first meeting was at Anaheim though; all Winnipeg's lossses have been on the road. Playing at home, I expect a huge effort from the highly motivated and revenge-minded Jets. The Jets are a profitable 38-32 (+8.9) the past 70 times that they were off three or more consec. losses. During that time, they're also a lucrative +11.4 net units, after allowing four or more goals in their previous game. The Jets know that they'll face the Ducks, yet again, at Anaheim, in less than a week. Playing their home opener, expect them to dig deep and come away with the victory, improving to 13-7 their last 20, when playing a home game with an O/U line of 5.5. 

I'm playing on MONTREAL. Winless through their first three games, we're going to see a highly determined effort from the Canadiens tonight. Note that the Habs were stronger last game, producing a much better effort than their first game. The Sharks managed a victory in their only game but they're a young team. Five rookies played for them in that game. Considering that the Sharks didn't play here last year, that'll mean that this is the first game in historic Montreal for a lot of these players. It'll be a packed house and I expect the fans to provide a boost for the Habs. The Sharks were just 10-18 on the road last year. Look for Montreal to dig deep and come away with the "W."

I'm playing on CALGARY. After dropping their opener, the Flames will be all business in this one. The Ducks aren't a strong team. The Flames know they need to take advantage. Home ice has played a pivotal role in this series for years. The home team is 59-21 the past 80 meetings. The Flames are 3-0 the last three meetings here and those wins came by a combined score of 14-6. Overall, they've taken five of the past six meetings. While the Flames lost their opener, they did outshoot the Oilers by a 47-33 margin. Coach Darryl Sutter said: "I thought 5-on-5 we were pretty strong. I think there's lots of good things to take from this game. I think our work ethic was in the right place." The Flames haven't started 0-2 since 2016/17. Look for them to pick up their first victory. 

I'm playing on PHILADELPHIA. After dropping their opener in a shootout, the Flyers are going to be all business in this one. Last year was disappointing and led to an offseason overhaul. This year's team comes in on a mission to get off to a hot start and to eventually get back to the playoffs. Starting 0-2 and losing to the expansion Kraken is not part of the plan. To their credit, the Kraken have gotten off to a solid start. They've shown that they won't be an easy out. That said, they're now playing the fourth leg of a 5-game road trip. All the games have been hard fought; as mentioned, they're going to be facing a determined Flyers team. Though they didn't look good in the shootout, I liked that the Flyers rallied to get to OT. I expect them to carry the positive momentum into this one, leading to their first victory of the season. 

I'm playing on PHILADELPHIA. The Canucks are walking into a hornet's nest. The Flyers are still mad from missing the playoffs last year. They've upgraded their lineup and and are entering the season "on a mission." Coach Alain Vigneault noted the following: "Last year doesn't represent who we are. And I believe this team is a playoff team and we all have something to prove." As a former coach of Vancouver, Vigneault figures to also have something to prove. This is the first time in two years that the Wells Fargo Center will be a sellout; they weren't allowed to play at full capacity last year. Note that the home team is 4-0 the past four meetings. Going back a bit further finds that the favorite is 13-3 the past 16 meetings. Behind a full house of fired up fans, expect the new look Flyers to start the season with an important "W." 

I'm playing on FLORIDA. The Penguins outworked the Lightning on Opening Night. That led to a victory as they spoiled Tampa's banner-raising celebration. Expect them to find things far more difficult against Florida. Note that the Pens are without Crosy, Melkin and others. The home team has won 13 of the past 18 in this series; the Panthers took two of three meetings last season. The Panthers were an outstanding 20-5-3 at home last season. The Pens were a mediocre 15-12-1 on the road. GM Bill Zito said this of the Panthers: "I am excited and I like our roster." Look for the Panthers to get things started with a "W." 

I'm playing on EDMONTON. These teams met in the final game of the preseason. The Canucks left it all on the ice and tried their hardest to win. They played with essentially the same lineup that they'll have tonight. The Oilers didn't even dress McDavid or Draisaitl. Yet, Edmonton still won. Of course, the Oilers will have their stars in the lineup tonight. They'll take advantage of a suspect Vancouver penalty kill. The Oilers have won six of the past nine meetings. Expect them to start the season with a "W." 

I'm playing on TORONTO. Both teams will look a lot different from the ones which faced each other in last year's playoffs. Each team is missing several players due to injury and each team had several players leave due to trades or free agency. While Matthews (Toronto) and Price (Montreal) are the 'big' name players which are out, the Habs will miss a lot more than just their goalie. Captain Shea Weber is out for the season. The Canadiens will also be without defenseman Joel Edmundson and center Mike Hoffman. Paul Byron, an important penalty killer, is also out with injury. Montreal lost center Phillip Danault, left winger Tomas Tatar and center Jesperi Kotkaniemi left to free agency. Danault was an excellent defensive forward. Yes, Montreal has replaced those players with new ones but it's going to take awhile. I believe Toronto will be "more ready to go." Of course, both teams will be motivated to win their opening game against their archrival. The Leafs should have a little more hunger from last year's playoff upset though. Look for Tavares and co. to get some payback. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. The Knights had incredible success as an expansion team. As a result, many have been backing Seattle on the futures markets. Things likely won't be so easy for the Kracken though. Not this season and not tonight. It's true that Vegas is dealing with some early Covid and injury issues. Naturally, that's not ideal. Still, the same is also true of the Kracken and they're far less equipped to deal with it. The Knights were 21-5-2 at home last reg. season. They were 22-11-4 the previous year and 24-12-5 the year before that. They're tought to beat at home and I expect them to take advantage of the favorable opening night matchup. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. While the Lightning have treated me well, the Canadiens have not. Yes, I'm surprised that the Habs made it this far. They deseve plenty of credit. Still, in my opinion, they're up agianst a far superior force tonight. Note that Montreal has been fortunate to face three teams, each of which was without a key center forward. (Tavares, Scheifele and Stephenson) They won't have that good fortune to start this series though. Last year, the Lightning had to win their title in "the bubble." This year, however, they're home to start the finals and they'll have nearly 15,000 passionate fans supporting them. The Lightning really do it all. They can beat me with quickness and skill or they can do so with physicality. The Canadiens' strength has been in net and with their top four defensemen. The Lightning are arguably every bit as good in goal though and give nothing away on the back line. Up front, they're much stronger than the Habs. Remember, TB was 21-7 at home this year while Montreal was 11-17 on the road. The champs worked hard all year to earn home ice advantage and they're not going to squander it in Game 1. Tampa draws first blood. 

I'm playing on TAMPA. One has to admire the Islanders. After getting hammered 8-0 in Game 5, the last time they played here, it would have been easy to quit. The Isles didn't do that though and here they are. Back at the scene of the crime. We've seen that anything can happen. That's true. Still, the Lightning have been money off a loss in the playoffs. This year and last. This is a highly talented team, determined to establish its place in the history books. While they may have to play without Kucherov, which is significant, the champs still have more than enough. Remember, they won without him plenty of times during the reg. season. It won't be another 8-0 wipeout, but it will be another Lightning win. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. While I'm surprised that the Knights are down 3-2, I'm not writing them off quite yet. The Knights are 4-1 their last five, when trailing in a series. They're 10-4 after allowing four or more goals, 48-28 in that situation the past few seasons. During that span, they're also 35-21 (+9.8) after a loss by two or more. Over that period, Montreal is only 27-37 (-16.6) after a win by two or more goals. Look for the Knights to bounce back and extend the series, improving to 30-15 their last 45, after scoring one goal or less in their previous game. 

I'm playing on VEGAS. It would have been easy for the Knights to fold last game. After the way Game 3 had ended - a horrible blunder by their goalie late in regulation followed by an OT loss - Vegas certainly had an excuse. The Knights showed a lot of heart and resilience though and found a way to bounce back and level the series. Having now shaken off the Game 3 debacle, back home, I expect the Knights to seize control of the series. We saw last night in Tampa that talent does matter. In this case, the talent gap is arguably even wider. Home ice matters, too. The Habs are 11-10-7 on the road, the Knights are 21-5-2 at home. The Canadiens have been a great story but they get outclassed tonight. Vegas wins.
