The summer’s biggest fight will be held on July 21st and if you want to bet on it then take a look at our analysis of the Wright Hopkins odds. Bernard Hopkins is coming out of retirement to take on the former junior middleweight champ Winky Wright in this fight set to take place at 170 pounds. Hopkins dominated the middleweight division for years and last fought and won against Antonio Tarver back in June of last year. That fight was supposed to place Bernard Hopkins into retirement and end his career with a 47-4-1 record with 32 knockouts. However, he has since bulked up a little bit and decided he felt fit enough to fight at 42. In order to bring himself out of retirement Hopkins wanted to fight the biggest name available, he even considered moving all the way up to heavyweight in order to challenge Oleg Maskaev before signing the fight with Wright. This matchup will work out well for Hopkins as a win over one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in today’s boxing world will put him right back up in the elite of the sport.

Winky Wright comes into this fight at 51-3-1 with 25 knockouts. His last couple of fights were an unanimous decision over Ike Quartey and a controversial draw with the current middleweight champ Jermain Taylor. Winky stormed out of the ring after having thought he won the fight and many boxing experts believe Wright was robbed. Taylor has been involved in a couple of controversial decisions now and Wright insists he won’t take a rematch claiming that the result will be the same at best anyway. Wright has called out Hopkins for years even when he was atop of the middleweight division, so this fight might be a little delayed but it’s still ones enthusiasts wanted to see happen.

Don’t plan on this fight being very exciting. Both of these fighters are smart guys who take what is given to them. It has been said it will be a chess match, so if you aren’t interested in technical matches against two highly skilled opponents this fight isn’t going to be for you. There are plenty of fights this summer that will be slugfests, but personally I’m interested in two of the sports biggest names taking the ring and seeing who can outsmart the other one.
