Worst Baseball Betting Teams in 2008

June 15, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

We are two full months into the 2008 season, and there are a few teams out there that are really costing their backers. Don’t fall into the trap as we look at the worst teams in baseball betting, and the reasons we think they are draining bankrolls.  If you want to make it easy on yourself though, then get winning baseball picks from the top handicappers on this site.

Kansas City Royals

This teams wows can be attributed largely to their starting pitching. Zach Greinke has put up decent numbers, but Brett Tomko, Brian Bannister and Gil Meche have really taken a dive. Don’t get me wrong though, the Royal offense is horrible too and that’s why they are the worst team in baseball.

Seattle Mariners

Seattle closed out the month of May by losing seven straight games, and somehow in that span they gave up 66 runs. That shouldn’t happen when you have two aces on your staff in Erik Bedard and Felix Hernandez. It’s tough to win games even when the pitching is good when you have five starters who hit less than .250.

Detroit Tigers

A good plan on baseball betting to start the year would have been to fade the Tigers. You would have a lot of cash right now as this team has under-performed more than any other. Their pitching is in shambles, starting from the top and Justin Verlander who has just been ugly in the first two months.

Cleveland Indians

The Indians are matching the Tigers for underperformance in the AL Central. This is all with Cliff Lee looking like a Cy Young candidate with his 8-1 start. The problem is that the offense just can’t get going with guys like Victor Martinez and Travis Hafner looking non-existent.

San Francisco Giants

San Francisco is one of the worst teams in the National League, but they have been overperforming here recently. There is some talent on their starting staff (Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum), and Aaron Rowand has been producing for them. However, the Giants offense is weak.

San Diego Padres

The Padres took advantage of a weak schedule to dig out of their early season hole. However with Jake Peavy and Chris Young on the disabled list the starting pitchers are pretty thin, plus the lineup has some big names like Khalil Greene, Scott Hairston, Paul McAnulty, and Jody Gerut trying to carry the load, yeah right.

Colorado Rockies

Another just mind boggling team of underperformance. After last year’s great run that had Colorado playing the Red Sox in the World Series, a lot of people were expecting big things out of them in 2008. Many guys are sitting on the disabled list, and their starters have struggled for the most part, leaving Colorado as the worst team in the National League right now.

Hopefully you learned enough about these teams to help you beat the baseball odds this summer.
