Week 9 NFL Football Odds, Point Spreads, & Lines
June 12, 2008
Of all the week 9 NFL lines, the spread for the New England Patriots versus the Indianapolis Colts will matter most for bettors. There was even one online sportsbook which opened up betting on this titanic matchup in week 8. Since that opening line of 3 points, the line has moved to anywhere between 5-6.5 points in favor of the Patriots. The majority of online books have agreed with a 5-point spread and almost all sportsbooks have figured a total of 56.5 points. This total number is the highest in week 9 action by 10 points. Because both of these teams have been putting plenty of points on the board this season, oddsmakers feel that they will continue to be effective offensively this week. While both of these teams put up healthy numbers through the air, their defenses are among the best in football at defending the pass. In fact, both the Colts and the Patriots are top five defensive teams in total defense and against the pass. The Patriots are a top five team against the run as well. With Indy housing the second best defense in the league, New England could have its first test of the season. One might also wonder if the fact that New England has played a couple close games this year will be to their advantage if this one goes down to the wire since New England is yet to play pressure-filled football.
