With UFC 74 coming up on the horizon we thought it was time to post the latest odds and giving some predictions to the main fights for those of you interested in betting on the bouts.  This pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place on August 25th, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The main event will be the heavyweight championship fight between the title holder and legend, Randy Couture and Gabriel Gonzaga.  Also scheduled to be on the card is a much anticipated match between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.  If you plan on doing any betting on this event then the four sportsbooks that we are going to recommend are Sportsbook, SportsBetting, Bodog, and BetUS.  If you shop around with lines at these four different places you will see that you can drive the number you have to lay on the favorites way down, and you can increase your winnings by betting the dogs at books that show more value.  Line shopping is key when betting on the UFC because of the money lines used.

We are excited to see the main draw between Couture and Gonzaga.  Couture comes into the match as the champion of the UFC’s heavyweight division, but the odds makers see him as the underdog to the challenger Gonzaga.  This will be Couture’s first title defense since beating Tim Silvia at UFC 68 back in March of this year.  That was his first fight since coming out of retirement, he had called it quits after getting knocked out by Chuck Liddell in February of 2006.  Couture is now 44 years of age and many don’t think he can keep up with the rest of the fighting world at that age.  Gonzaga is coming off a big win against Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic back at UFC 70, bringing his UFC record to 4-0.  That right was for the number 1 contender spot and the chance to fight the champion in this event.  His overall record now stands at 9-1 with 4 knockouts and 5 submissions.  He has yet to see a fight through to the finish so we expect this match to be very exciting and the crowd should be getting their money’s worth with the action coming fast and furious.  Even though Couture has had a great career, we are going to go with the newcomer for this one at the low favorite price.  Take Gonzaga to win as we see him earning a knockout before this thing gets to the finish.

Josh Koscheck was in the first season of the Ultimate Fighter and like many of those guys he now has a huge following.  He was a great college wrestler at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and you can bet he loves to take people to the ground.  He is currently 9-1 in MMA action with one knockout and four submissions.  He has had a couple of great battles against Diego Sanchez, the last giving him this chance to take on Georges St. Pierre for who is going to be the number one contender.  St. Pierre is very talented and stands at 14-2 with seven knockouts, four submissions, and three decision victories.  He has lost to Matt Hughes and then in his last fight went down to Matt Serra, losing the UFC welterweight championship.  He has beaten some of the biggest names in the division with Hughes, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, and Frank Trigg all losing to him.  It’s going to be tough for us to see him coming out and losing two in a row, especially to a guy like Koscheck who has a limited skill set.  Take the favorite in this one, even though he comes at a heavy price.
