This event is being titled Stacked because of the intense card that is scheduled. Silva and Sherk will both be looking to defend their titles, Silva at middleweight, and Sherk at lightweight. Both of these individuals gained their titles at UFC 64 and will be taking on formidable challengers.
Silva is a Brazillian who has competed in Cage Rage, PRIDE, Shooto, and Rumble on the Rock. He has beaten some of the biggest names in the business including Rich Franklin and Jeremy Horn. His record stands at 18-4 with 10 knockouts and 3 submissions after his triangle choke win over Travis Lutter on Feb. 3rd at UFC 67.
Sherk has done almost everything he can in mixed martial arts fighting. His record is 33-2 with wins in both UFC and PRIDE. His style has drawn comparasions to former welterweight champ Matth Hughes, whom Sherk fought to a close decision loss for a title. Sherk has eight knockouts and thirteen submissions to his credit, but hasn’t fought since winning the title over Kenny Florian back in October at UFC 64.
Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz may not be a title fight, but this matchup is going to draw plenty of fanfare and attention. Evans was a two-time all-State wrestler in New York and won a National Junior College championship while attending Niagra County CC. Then he moved on to Michigan State where he was 48-34. Evans is inexperienced having won only 10 matches without a loss and his last was an impressive high kick KO over Sean Salmon at UFC Fight Night 8 on January, 25th. He has three knockouts and two submission victories.
Tito may not be the champ, but he’s one of the most popular fights in the world. The Huntington Beach Bad Boy comes in with a record of 15-5 with seven knockouts and two submission victories. He is known as being extremely flamboyant, frequently wearing catchy t-shirts after his matches that make fun of his opponents, my personal favorite was “I just killed Kenny” after beating Shamrock for the first time at UFC 40. His last three losses have come to Chuck Liddell (twice) and Randy Coutoure (lost light heavyweight belt). In between losses to Liddell he beat Vitor Belfort, Forrest Griffin, and Ken Shamrock twice. These are not the most impressive wins with Griffin getting beat by everyone and Shamrock too old and slow to compete anymore.
