June 12, 2008
It’s time to take a look at the UFC 72 odds for the event taking place in Northern Ireland at Belfast. This event is being title “Victory” and will feature former UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin trying to earn himself a title shot against Anderson Silva by taking on the young gun from Japan in Yushin Okami. This will not be the end of the action though as Forrest Griffin, a fan favorite ever since coming off of the Ultimate Fighter season one, will be fighting Hector “Sick Dog” Ramirez.

Rich Franklin has fought just once since his devastating loss to Anderson Silva back at UFC 64, but it was a convincing win over Jason MacDonald in UFC 68. He is very powerful and likes to try and knock opponents out, yet he is skillful in submission. This ability to do almost everything is why he is such a revered fighter in the UFC. Okami is coming off a big win as an underdog against Mike Swick in Swick’s hometown of Houston, Texas. He is undefeated at 4-0 in the UFC and has won six straight MMA fights. He is only 25 years of age but has already amassed a career record of 21-3. He is known for being a great ground and pound fighter which should set the stage to make this a very exciting matchup. The favorites have been coming up short in the last four pay-per-views however, so Franklin backers will have to be a little bit nervous of that growing trend. However, this fight is being held a lot more closely by the odds makers than the other ones were.
