UFC Silva vs. Irvin Predictions & Odds
On Saturday July 19th the UFC is back in action as UFC Fight Night Silva vs. Irvin is set to get underway from the Pearl in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not only do you get the main event bout between the current middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. light heavyweight James “the Sandman” Irvin, but you get 5 other great fights as well. Not very often do fans get to watch an event like this on cable tv, but the UFC is going to broadcast this one live on Spike TV. To get a good idea of what all you are getting in this big MMA event, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to breakdown the fights he likes and give you who he thinks is going to walk away with the win.
Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin
Silva -500
Irvin +350
This fight is going to be one of the best fights you will ever get to see for free, as Silva is considered by many to be the pound for pound best MMA fighter in the world. Silva has dominated the UFC middleweight division, and is this fight will be his first ever fight at light heavyweight. Irvin has put together quite the MMA career going 14-4 and is currently riding a 2 fight win streak that has to have him thinking he has at least a shot in this one. But the UFC isn’t going t throw Silva into a big time battle in his first fight at a new weight class, this should wind up being a pretty easy one for Silva.
Winner: Anderson Silva -500
Brandon Vera vs. Reese Andy
Vera -600
Andy +400
Here we get another big mismatch as the odds makers aren’t giving Andy any credit at all in this one, but Andy does have a 7-1 MMA record which means he could be out to surprise Vera in this one. We are with Vera on this one as he brings his 8-2 record against some much tougher fighters. Vera has lost 2 in a row including a unanimous decision loss to Tim Sylvia and a TKO loss to a very good Fabricio Werdum. Look for Vera to get back on track in this one.
Winner: Brandon Vera – 600
Hernes Franca vs. Frank Edgar
Franca +135
Edgar -165
Unlike the first two fights this one should be a lot closer as both fighters in this one are pretty evenly matched. The edge goes to Edgar and his 8-1 MMA record, but you can’t count out Franca and his solid 19-5 record. Franca had rolled off 7 straight wins before losing to Sean Sherk at UFC 73. Edgar is coming off his first loss of his career to the hands of Gray Maynard. This was a tough one to call, but we like Franca to pull of the minor upset in this one.
Winner: Hernes Franca +135
Anthony Johnson vs. Kevin Burns
Johnson -295
Burns +235
Both of these fighters come in pretty inexperienced when you talk about the number of fights they have had in their careers. Johnson the clear favorite in this one comes in with a 4-1 record and is coming off a great performance against Tommy Speer at UFC Fight Night 13, where he ended the fight in 51 seconds by KO. Burns on the other hand does come in with a slightly better record at 6-1, and is riding a 4 fight win streak, including a submission win over Roan Carneiro at UFC 85. If you have seen Johnson fight, than you know why we are picking this guy to destroy Burns in this one.
Winner: Anthony Johnson -295
