Texans Steelers Spread
September 5, 2008
The Houston Texans have been flying under the radar in the cutthroat AFC South but they are eager to prove their worth Sunday at 1 PM ET in the Houston Texans vs Pittsburgh Steelers game. Pittsburgh has high expectations heading into their season opener with their elite QB Ben Roethlisberger leading the way. Houston coach Gary Kubiak thinks he has the pieces in place to make a serious run at the AFC South title, but Kubiak must first handle the teak tough Steelers on the road. The NFL betting odds for the Houston Texans vs Pittsburgh Steelers game has the Steelers as -7 point chalk.

Houston WR Andre Johnson has quietly become one of the premiere wideouts in the NFL and 2008 will be his breakout season. Johnson and QB Matt Schaub rely heavily on the passing game with the absence of a true running threat out of the backfield. The Steelers run defense is extremely tough and if Houston’s ground game can’t get going they could make the Texans very one dimensional. The Pitt secondary is a good group led by SS Troy Polamalu so it will be critical for the Texans to have balance on offense. The NFL betting odds OVER\UNDER for the Houston Texans vs Pittsburgh Steelers game is at 43.5 points.
Pittsburgh All-Pro QB Ben Roethlisberger was running for his life for much of last season behind a porous O-line that allowed 47 sacks. This weekend could be much of the same for “Big” Ben as he faces two pass-rush demons in DE Mario Williams and DT Amobi Okoye. The Texans will need a big game from both players to help hide the absence of starting CB Dunta Robinson. The Steelers have a dynamic 1-2 punch on the ground with “Fast” Willie Parker and rookie Rashard Mendenhall that could be one of the best duos in the NFL. Parker and Mendenhall could post big numbers against a Texans linebacking crew that is really nothing special. Are the Texans real contenders in the AFC South? Have the Steelers improved their pass protection enough to take them to them to another Superbowl?
