Reasons why the Spurs cover the spread Friday:

1.)  San Antonio will not lose 2 straight games to start the season.  The Spurs are still a very good team, and it took a come-from-behind win by the Phoenix Suns in the 4th quarter for San Antonio to lose their opener.  Now the Spurs play a depleted Portland Trail Blazers team tonight that has had terrible success against the Spurs as of late.

2.)  Portland is without Greg Oden.  Tim Duncan will have a field day in the middle now that Oden is sidelined with a foot injury.  The Blazers don’t have the manpower inside to slow down the Spurs. 

3.)  San Antonio is 7-0 in all games against the Blazers over the last 3 seasons.  The Spurs are 17-8 in their last 25 road meetings against the Blazers as well.  Portland doesn’t have an answer for this veteran San Antonio squad and they won’t magically find the answer in their second game of the season tonight.  Bet the Spurs on the road.
