Mike Holmgren is hopeful to win a Superbowl in his last season as head coach but his team must start with a win in the Seattle Seahawks vs Buffalo Bills opener on the road. Both teams starting quarterbacks are banged up heading into this game with Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck suffering from a back injury while Buffalo’s Trent Edwards has a deep thigh bruise nagging him. Hasselbeck will need plenty of help in this game against a well-coached Bills team that has high expectations for the 2008 season. The NFL betting odds at BetUS for the Seattle Seahawks vs Buffalo Bills game has the home Bills favored by -1.

Despite being the best team in the NFC West year in and year out, the Seahawks have not proven they can win on the road. Buffalo’s biggest advantage in this game could be the Seahawks jet lag. Hasselbeck’s back could get worse on the 5 hr. plane ride over but Hasselbeck will look to test a young Bills secondary that has some holes. The Seahawks have some injury concerns at wideout, and this should be a good barometer as to where the wideouts are at. Seattle’s ground game has a new look with RB’s Julius Jones, Maurice Morris and T.J Duckett expected to improve last season’s 20th ranked rushing offense. The Bills are a little undersized on D but they are an opportunistic defense that creates turnovers so ball security will be extremely important for Seattle. The BetUS NFL betting odds OVERUNDER for the Seattle Seahawks vs Buffalo Bills game is at 38.5 points.

Buffalo QB Trent Edwards will be handing off to RB Marshawn Lynch early and often in this game to try an test Seattle’s small defense. Lynch had a breakout rookie season in 07″ proving that he is one of the better back in the NFL. Lynch will need to keep the heat off of Edwards against a Seahawks defense that knows how to blitz. A big area of concern for the Bills on offense is the void left by All-Pro left tackle Jason Peters who is still a holdout. Buffalo’s O-line looked shaky in the preseason and if they can’t run the ball they could be in for a long day. Seattle has a stout linebacking crew that swarms to the ball so Lynch will be challenged. Despite the O-line’s susceptibility Edwards will have a new-red zone target in 6’5″ rookie wideout James Hardy. Once Hardy develops he could be a big-time player opposite of  playmaking WR Lee Evans. Edwards is not a flashy QB but he is a winner that knows what to do with the football. Can the Bills overcome the loss of All-Pro LT Jason Peters? Are the Seahawks prime-time contenders for the Superbowl still or merely benefactors of a weak division?
