Seattle Seahawks v. Washington Redskins 2008 NFL Playoff Betting Line
June 12, 2008
There isn’t a hotter team in the NFC right now than the Washington Redskins. This team has won their past four games, and that number should be five if Coach Gibbs knew he couldn’t call double time-outs. That dumb move cost them a loss to Buffalo on the night before the team attended Sean Taylor’s funeral in Miami. An event like that could have destroyed a lot of teams, but this team is playing possessed and dedicating the rest of the season to their fallen comrade. If you are looking at the NFL odds over at the BetUS sportsbook you’ll find the Skins are 3-point underdogs as they head into Seattle.

Washington Redskins
+3 at Seattle Seahawks
–3
Even though Todd Collins went an NFL-record ten years and three days between consecutive starts in the league, he has come out playing as if he’s been a ten year starter. He has evidently used that time on the bench to prepare for his chance as his decision-making has been excellent and he has been getting the ball to all of the playmakers on this team. You won’t find tight end Chris Cooley and wide receivers Moss and Randle-El left out and that means the offense finally appears to be clicking.
The way Seattle thinks they can rattle Collins is to apply plenty of pressure. Of course Washington has a plan to counter the heat and it’s to get the running game going early. Clinton Portis has big play capability and the Redskins are going to need him to pull off some big runs. Portis is explosive and an all-round player as well, he can catch and blocks as well as any back in the league.
Ladell Betts is Portis’s backup and is a guy who can break free if he gets into open space, but can pound away inside as well. It will be important for Betts and Portis to pick up chunks of yards in the early downs so Washington can get more aggressive on third down and won’t be forced into any third and longs.
It’s going to be up to Collins in this one. If he can keep up his consistent play that has carried the team in recent weeks the Redskins will have a great shot at winning. His game-management skills and ball distribution have impressed many pundits and led Washington to be on many handicappers NFL picks. The transformation from career backup to playoff caliber starter has been something we aren’t taking lightly, and either is his Hall of Fame coach. Joe Gibbs was quoted as saying, “I don’t know that I’ve ever had a better performance coming off the bench. Ever.” This was after he spelled Campbell. The coach knew that Collins played well in the preseason, but that was against weak opponents in garbage time. Now he’ll have a real test under pressure.
If you like NFL betting, then this game should be a great one to get in on.
