2008 Lenox Industrial Tools 301 Odds & Preview

June 24, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

There is a little more excitement for this weekends race, as it marks beginning of the “Race to the Chase” as there are only 10 races left till the top 12 drivers begin the Chase for the Championship. Things are pretty tight as there are plenty of drivers still with a shot to climb up into the top 12. As it stands now Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart are the last 2 drivers in the field, but Kevin Harvick and David Ragan are right on their heels. This weekend drivers are heading to New Hampshire for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301, and if you look back to a year ago Denny Hamlin was your winner, and though he seems safe in 8th right now, another big finish at Loudon can really help his chances of staying in the top 12. To get a good idea of what kind of odds some drivers with a shot at making the top 12, we are going to take a look at some of the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots to win this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Favorites: Kyle Busch 5/1, Carl Edwards 7/1, Jimmie Johnson 7/1, Denny Hamlin 7/1, Dale Earnhardt Jr 8/1,and Tony Stewart 8/1
There is plenty to like about this group of drivers, as it has some of the biggest names you will find in NASCAR. The guy that needs this win the most is easily Tony Stewart as he currently sits in 11th place just 18 points ahead of 13th place driver Kevin Harvick. All but Edwards and Earnhardt Jr have won this race, but don’t be surprised if either one wins this weekend.

Middle of the Pack: Jeff Gordon 12/1, Clint Bowyer 15/1, Greg Biffle 15/1, Kevin Harvick 15/1, Matt Kenseth 15/1, and Martin Truex Jr 18/1
Gordon is the only driver to have won this race before, but that was all the way back in 1995. This group has plenty of talent to win this weekend, and if you look back to 2007 Gordon came in 2nd with Truex Jr right behind him in 3rd. Harvick and Kenseth were both in the top 10 here a year ago. While Biffle came in 3rd in 2006. This race can go a long way for Kenseth, Bowyer, Harvick, and Truex Jr, as they all sit right on the edge of the final 12 with just 10 races to go.

Long Shots: Kasey Khane 25/1, Jeff Burton 25/1, Kurt Busch 35/1, Brian Vickers 35/1, David Ragan 40/1, and Ryan Newman 35/1
Here you have to dig a little deeper if you want to find a driver that is going to win out of this group. More than anything these guys are probably just looking for a good finish. Vickers is just a little over a 100 points out of 12th place, with Newman right behind him. If we had to pick two drivers out of this group it would be Burton and Kahne. Burton is currently 2nd in the point standings and has won this race 3 times before, and Kahne is arguably the 2nd hottest driver behind Busch over the last few weeks.

While you have to remember that in NASCAR the odds are way different as so many drivers are considered favorites, that you don’t have the one or two guys like you would in golf with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Also be sure to check back for continued NASCAR coverage from professional handicapper Jason Lowry. We covered much of the field but just incase you are looking for a big long shot this weekend we provided a complete list of odds thanks to Sportsbook.com.
