Dallas Cowboys v. New York Giants 2008 NFL Playoffs Odds & Predicitons

The New York Giants get a 3rd shot at the Dallas Cowboys Sunday in what will be the biggest NFC game to date. The Giants have fell victim to the Cowboys twice already this season and oddsmakers don’t see anything changing Sunday. A 31-20 win by the Cowboys in New York and a 45-35 victory in Dallas show that the Cowboys clearly have the Giants’ number. Oddsmakers feel this game will be a bit closer as indicated by the 7.5-point spread they have set for Sunday’s meeting at Texas Stadium.

It seems as both teams are going in opposite directions right now though heading into this game so the Cowboys are more vulnerable than ever right now. Dallas is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games, losing two of those contests outright. The Cowboys offense clearly isn’t the same without Terrell Owens. Just his presence on the field yields double teams which allow Jason Witten and other Cowboys’ receivers to run free. Owens is a game-time decision for Sunday’s match-up according to head coach Wade Phillips. Let’s be honest though. Owens is a gamer and he will be playing Sunday no matter what Phillips may have to say. As long as Tony Romo can get his mind off of Jessica Simpson and back to football, there is no reason why the Cowboys shouldn’t be advancing to the NFC Championship game.

The Cowboys will have to do much better than the 32 points they have put up in the last 3 games, with just over a 10.0 PPG average. Whether it’s the swirling winds or the tough New York fans, the Giants just haven’t been the same in the Meadowlands. New York is clearly a better road team this season as they have a 7-2 ATS mark away from Giants’ stadium. Their defense has been a big key to their success. Their 8-game road winning streak has seen the Giants give up just 13.88 points per game during this amazing run.

Despite the Week One loss, they are 4-4 in their last eight visits to Dallas. “We love playing there, we love going to Dallas,” Giants quarterback Eli Manning said. “There are no secrets between the teams. It’s a challenge against Dallas, we know that. We played them two times. Maybe the third time will be a charm.” Manning has completed better than 71 percent of his passes against two of the best defenses in the league over the last two weeks. If the Giants stick to their running game, he can be effective. Manning has to be confident as ever after throwing for 4 TD passes against the Patriots and then 2 TD’s and no interceptions against the league’s top pass defense in Tampa Bay.

Over the years it has been very tough for teams to beat an opponent 3 times in one season. This is the challenge the Cowboys will be facing. If their high-octane offense that is putting up 30 points a game at home can flourish, the Cowboys will get over their recent playoff woes and into the NFC Championship game as most NFL experts predicted to start the season. After all, the Giants’ win over the Bucs ended their 2-game playoffs losing streak and it’s definitely a small victory at that. Check in Sunday with InfoPlays and we will show you which team will cover the number in the 3 rd meeting this season between the Giants and Cowboys.
