Larry Cook and his team at Info Plays previews the Connecticut/Louisville spread with this article in preparation for the Friday, September 26th meeting.  The Huskies travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals in what will be a rematch of last year’s 21-17 UConn victory.  If you want the winner of this game than look no further than Larry’s 10* Big East GAME OF THE YEAR for just $19.95.  This will be Larry’s biggest NCAA Football play for the entire 2008 season thus far, so hit it and hit it BIG!

Connecticut hasn’t missed a beat this season.  After a hot start last year, the Huskies haven’t disappointed in ‘08 with a perfect 4-0 start to the season entering play Friday.  Tyler Lorenzen didn’t have a great game throwing the football in last week’s narrow win over Baylor, but he did a better job of finding receivers.  A week after Kashif Moore was the only wideout to catch a pass against Virginia, Moore was joined by Brad Kanuch, Ellis Gaulden, D.J. Hernandez and Michael Smith in the box score last week.  Bet UConn +3.5 at Sportsbook.com here!

The Huskies do a great job of blocking downfield, especially at receiver, to spark big runs.  Lorenzen had a 34-yard scamper in the third quarter last week for a touchdown, where they created just enough holes for him to find pay dirt.  On defense, the linebackers did a great job of keeping Baylor from hitting big plays.  Both Greg Lloyd and Scott Lutrus each had 10 tackles with 2.5 coming for a loss.  What the Huskies need to work on comes mainly from quarterback Tyler Lorenzen.  He threw his fifth and sixth interceptions of the season last week.  He is forcing the issue more this season instead of letting the game come to him like he did in 2007.  Defensive improvement needs to come on third down stops.  The Huskies’ defense allowed Baylor to convert 8-of-14 third-down attempts last game.

Louisville has bounced back nicely this season following their 27-2 drubbing against Kentucky in their season opener.  A huge win over Kansas State last week shows they are back and ready to at least contend for a Big East crown.  Louisville had to use 2 new starters on the offensive line last week, but it wasn’t reflected in their performance on the field.  Josh Byrom and Greg Tomczyk held down the fort on the left side of the line, and helped the team rush for 303 yards in that win over the Wildcats.  Louisville’s defense played strong for the first three quarters as well.  Back Louisville -3.5 at BetUs Sportsbook here!

The Cardinals’ defense allowed Kansas State to convert on a couple long passes late in the game that made the final score respectable.  Louisville completely stopped K-State’s running game as the Wildcats could never get anything going on the ground.  Offensively, Louisville got solid production from tight ends Pete Nochta and Johnnie Burns, who combined for 59 yards receiving.  Improvement will need to come from Louisville’s special teams if they are to win Friday.  The Cardinals’ punt return team gave up a touchdown and allowed a first down on a fake punt to Kansas State last week.  The kicking team missed a 31-yard field goal and an extra point as well.  Freshman kicker Chris Philpott was replaced by Tim Dougherty after missing the extra point.  The kicking game could be a huge factor in deciding this Big East opener Friday.
