2008 NASCAR Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Odds & Preview
Saturday Sept. 6th the final chapter of the NASCAR Sprint Cup regular season will be wrote, as the drivers head to the 2008 running of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. With only 12 drivers getting the chance to move on to the 10 race playoff system, this race becomes not only important for the leaders, but those few drivers fighting for the final few spots are in great need of a solid race this weekend. As it stands now David Ragan is on the outside looking in, but just 17 points behind 12th place driver Clint Bowyer. Also in the hunt but still on the outside is Kasey Kahne who is just 48 points out of the Chase lineup. To help you get a better understanding of who the odds makers think have the best shot of winning this weekend, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to break down the field by the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots he thinks has a good chance of winning.
Favorites:
Kyle Busch +500, Carl Edwards +600, Denny Hamlin +600, Jimmie Johnson +600, and Tony Stewart +1000
There is plenty of reason to like the drivers in this group, as all 5 of them have raced well here before, including last year when they all finished in the top 10. Johnson is known for his late season pushes, and many are thinking last week was just the beginning of what might be to come. On the other hand its hard to imagine Edwards and Busch not in the picture for a 2nd straight week. You have to keep Stewart in the picture as he was won here before, and is still looking for that first win of the season in 2008.
Middle of the Pack:
Dale Earnhardt Jr +1200, Greg Biffle +1200, Kevin Harvick +1200, Jeff Gordon +1500, Kasey Kahne +1500, Matt Kenseth +1500, and Clint Bowyer +2000
There are plenty of drivers here that have the chance to sneak up and take the win home this weekend, and Kahne will be putting the pedal to the metal this week, as he not only needs to win and lead the most laps, but will need some help from the rest of the field as well. Gordon has fallen all the way to 10th in the standings and his 2nd place finish here a year ago has to be good reason to think he will get some of those points back this weekend. the other guy we think has a chance out of this group is Kenseth who has done well here at Richmond in his career.
Long Shots:
Mark Martin +3000, David Ragan +3000, Jeff Burton +3000, Martin Truex Jr +3500, Ryan Newman +4000, Brian Vickers +4000, and Kurt Busch +5000
If Ragan races well he is likely the first guy to sneak in and knock someone else out. but there are other guys in this group like Burton and Newman that you have to take seriously to race well each weekend. While Kyle Busch is getting all the attention, Kurt Busch has won this race before, and could be ready to pull out another victory this weekend.
