Joe Luis “El Temible” Castillo is the no. 1 ranked fighter by both the WBC and the Ring at 140 pounds and is 6-3-1 with three knockouts in championship fights.  He brings a career record of 55-7-1 with 47 knockouts into this fight.  He is a former two-time WBC lightweight world champion with five successful defenses of his title and was a former Mexican featherweight champ with two successful defenses.  He is 33 years old and has been fighting professionally since he was 16 years old.  Jose won the WBC title in 2000 and defended his title three times before losing to Floyd Mayweather in 2002.  He then regained the title in 2004 and made a couple of successful defenses before losing to Diego Corrales in May of 2005.  After normally fighting at 135 he was penalized for failing to make weight prior to two different title fights against Corrales, which lead to him being forced to fight at 140.  His nickname means someone who is feared.
