2008 Affliction MMA Picks & Odds
On Saturday July 19th MMA fighting will be in action as the Honda Center in Anaheim will be hosting Affliction: Banned. The event is being promoted by Affliction Clothing and Adrenaline MMA .This event is going to be broadcast live on pay-per-view and the main card for the fight is headlined by the Heavyweight Championship showdown between Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia. Professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going breakdown 4 of the big fights, and give you his take on who he thinks is going to win the fight.
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia
Emelianenko -450
Sylvia +300
Even though almost every single fight is going to be something to watch, if you only have time to watch one, than this is it. Emelianenko is considered one of the, if not the best heavyweight fighter in MMA, as he comes in with a record of 28-1 and hasn’t lost a fight in almost 8 years. Sylvia is a giant in the sport of MMA as his 6′8 260 pound frame has led him to a 24-4 career record, but he has lost 2 out of his last 3 including his most recent fight to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by a guillotine choke. Emelianenko is going to be way to much for Sylvia to handle and he will likely win this fight with one of his deadly submission moves.
Winner:
Fedor Emelianenko -450
Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao
Lindland -500
Negao +350
Lindland is one of the toughest middleweight fighters you will find and he is going to have his hands full with Fabio Negao who is still raw with a 8-3 record. Lindland is favored pretty big in this one, and there is no reason to think he won’t come through in this one. He did lose his last fight, but that was against the much better Fedor Emelianenko. This should get Lindland going again and should add to his 20-5 MMA record.
Winner:
Matt Lindland -500
Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo
Barnett -450
Rizzo +300
Its been almost 7 years since these two guys touched gloves in a MMA event, and last time Rizzo knocked out Barnett for his first career loss and the only fight he has ever been knocked out in. Barnett is quite the fighter, it looks like he is going to have to give up on beating Mike Filipovic who he has lost to 3 times now. Since beating Barnett, Rizzo has struggled winning only 5 times in his last 11 fights. We got Barnett revenging the prior loss to Rizzo in this one.
Winner: Josh Barnett – 450
Renato Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead
Sobral -260
Whitehead +190
This is the closest fights the odds makers got on this main card, and its easy to see why, as you get to pretty evenly matched fighters. Whitehead is a 3 time All-American wrestler and got his name in MMA from his time on the Ultimate Fighter 2, and is simply on a tear winning all 12 of his last fights. Sobral is quite the talent himself, as the Brazilian has earned a not so good name for himself due to his actions in a fight against David Heath where he wouldn’t let go of a submission choke move even though the ref tried to stop the fight. We like Whitehead to teach this guy a lesson and pull off the big win here.
Winner:
Mike Whitehead +190
