2008 PGA Tour WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Odds
We are nearing the end of another exciting golf season and this week the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be the host to many of golfs best, and it just so happens that it is the final stop before the 2008 PGA Championship. Over the past 9 years this tournament has been dominated by Tiger Woods, who has won 6 times, including the last 3. We all know that Tiger Woods will not be in the field so it will be up to someone else to tackle Firestone Country Club. In order to get an invitation to this event a player must meet one of 5 criteria otherwise they are off playing somewhere else over the weekend. Last year Tiger Woods dominated the field and was the only player to finish the tournament under par at 8 under, while the next closest guy was at even par. So its hard telling just what the conditions will bring this year, but to get a good idea at the field this weekend professional handicapper Jason Lowry is ready to breakdown the tournament into the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots he thinks has a shot to win this weekend.
Favorites:
Phil Mickelson +1000, Sergio Garcia +1600, and Jim Furyk +1800
These 3 guys definitely have what it takes to win this weekend, and Mickelson knows just what it takes, as he won this event back in 1996. Furyk had the best finish at the British Open, but its hard to say that will have a lot to do with how he plays this weekend. We think that it would be no surprise to see all 3 of these guys in the top 10, but if we had to take one, it would be Garcia, as he should come focused and ready to go after a poor performance at the Open.
Middle of the Pack:
Ernie Els +2000, Padraig Harrington +2000, Kenny Perry +2000, Anthony Kim +2000, Adam Scott +2000, Stewart Cink + 2000, Geoff Ogilvy +3000, Vijay Singh + 3500, Lee Westwood +3500, and Hunter Mahan +3500
This group is full of guys that can come out firing any weekend. Perry sits in second in the point standings and the money list, while guys like Els, Scott, and Singh look to get back to their winning ways. Kim and Harrington are solid picks to do well this weekend, but if we had to pick just one guy out of this group in would be Perry, as he seems more focused than ever this season.
Long Shots:
KJ Choi +4000, Justin Rose +4000, Steve Stricker +4000, Justin Leonard +4500, Retief Goosen +4500, Trevor Immelman +5000, Andres Romero +5000, Rory Sabbatini +8000, Zach Johnson +9000, and Rocco Mediate +9000
If you go off last year this group just might have some the toughest competition for this weekend. Rose and Sabbatini played well and finished tied for 2nd, while Romero wasn’t to far behind at 6th. You have plenty of past major champions in this group, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see another strong outing from Rocco Mediate, but the guy we really like out of this group this weekend is Justin Leonard.
