Golf just finished up the 2nd of the 4 majors this year with Tiger Woods beating Rocco Mediate in one of the best 19 hole playoffs you will ever see to win the US Open. Even though the tournament wasn’t officially over there were plenty of players already on their way across the country for the 2008 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands out in Cromwell, Conn. Last year Hunter Mahan was able to capture his first and only win of his career here. While there aren’t a ton of big name players that play the week after the US Open, so its a good chance for some of the lesser names to sneak in and grab a win. To give you a good preview of the event Jason Lowry is going to break up the tournament into hisfavorites, guys in the middle, and some long shots he thinks have a good chance at coming through this weekend.

Favorites: Stewart Cink 14/1, Vijay Singh 14/1, Kenny Perry 16/1, Hunter Mahan 20/1,and Justin Rose 25/1
There is plenty of guys to like out of this group as you have former winners in Cink and Mahan. Singh is always a threat to come out and perform well so don’t be surprised if he plays a lot better than he did in the US Open. Perry might have the best advantage out of the who group as he well rested after not facing the pressure of the US Open. Rose looked he was starting to play good golf with a 2nd place finish at the Memorial Tournament, but followed it up by missing the cut at the US Open.

Middle Of the Pack: Stuart Appleby 28/1, Carl Pettersson 28/1, Nick O’Hern 28/1, David Toms 30/1, Zach Johnson 40/1, Woody Austin 50/1 and D.J. Trahan 50/1
This group is pretty interesting as you find quite a few names that have already made a name for themselves, and a few that are still trying to make their mark on the tour. Woody Austin is the only guy in this group that has won this tournament before. Both O’Hern and Toms played well here a year ago. Petterson and Trahan both played well at the US Open last week, as Trahan came in tied for 4th and Pettersson tied for 6th.

Long Shots: Kevin Na 80/1, JJ Henry 125/1, Fred Funk 150/1, and Jay Williamson 150/1
Williamson was the runner up a year ago and if follows in the footsteps of Mahan he will shock everyone and win the tournament this week. Henry was your 2006 winner so you can’t count him out of it. Na and Funk both finished in the top 10 here a year ago, and could be surprise picks this weekend. While we just named a few of the many long shots this weekend, you just never know who is going to get hot and play some of the best golf of their career. So picking a guy with odds at 100/1 or worse can be a lot tougher than you might expect.
