Phoenix, AZ will be the home of NASCAR fans this weekend when the Sprint Cup Series gets underway at the Phoenix International Speedway on Saturday April 12th. This will be a little different for the drivers this season, as they will get their first taste of night racing when they get underway during prime time television on Saturday night. This is the first of two races that take place on this 312 lap track, the other is the Checker Auto Parts 500 that is set to get underway late in the season. Last year Jeff Gordon was able to take home the checkered flag for his first victory on this track. Here is a look at our 1-2-3 prediction for this weeks race in Arizona.

1. #18 Kyle Busch 7/1 at Bodoglife.com

Busch had a great start to the season with back-to-back top 5 finishes, and a victory in the 4th race of the season at the Kobalt tools 500. He then went on a stretch of poor finishes topped off by a 38th finish at the Goody’s Cool Orange 500, but he was able to get back on track with a 3rd place finish at the Samsung 500. Busch has been pretty solid on the flat mid-ranged tracks throughout his career, with his best finish on this track coming in 2005 when he entered victory lane.

2. #24 Jeff Gordon 9/1 at Bodoglife.com

Gordon like the other Hendrick Motorsports drivers has yet to take home a victory this season. The defending champion here at the Subway Fresh Fit 500 would love to make it back-to-back victories here and finally get on the board in 2008. Gordon is coming off his worst race of the season after wrecking last week at the Samsung 500. We aren’t to worried about this as Gordon has been great on these type of tracks. Along with his recent victory on this track, he has 8 top five and 15 top ten finishes here at the Phoenix International Speedway.

3. Matt Kenseth 9/1 at Bodoglife.com

Kenseth has yet to get it really going in 2008, but has been able to notch 3 top 10 finishes. He has yet to crack the top 3, as his best finish came back in the 2nd race of the season where he finished 5th at the Auto Club 500. Kenseth has plenty of top 5 finishes here at Pheonix, five to be exact since 2000. His best finish on this track came in 2002 when he entered victory lane after taking home the checkered flag. The last two years at the Subway Fresh 500 he has finished 5th and 3rd, so you can easily see that he has it going here. This could be the week where Kenseth gets things going, and turns around his 2008 season. While we don’t see him coming away with the victory he could be a sleeper this week if Gordon and Busch fail to get the job done.
