Even though many of golfs best will be teeing up this weekend at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, we are ready to start cracking down on this year’s PGA Championship. This is the 4th and final major of the season, and a signal to many golfers that the year is nearing its end. The two time defending champion of this event, Tiger Woods, will again be out of action, and it gives others a possible shot at adding to their major totals or someone a shot at winning their first. With the PGA Championship using multiple golf courses to choose from, Oak Hills Country Club is set to be the site for this year’s championship. To help you get going on the upcoming event Jason Lowry is going to break down the field by the favorites, guys in the middle, and the long shots he feels have a chance to win.

Favorites: Phil Mickelson +600, Ernie Els +900, Jim Furyk +1200, Vijay Singh +1200, Padraig Harrington +1400, Sergio Garcia +1400, and Adam Scott +1400
This group is full of big time players, and each one has a great shot at winning this thing. Mickelson was the last guy to win before Tiger back in 2005 and Singh was right before him in 2004. The rest of these guys will looking for their first PGA Championship, and guys like Sergio and Scott will be looking for their first ever major. We got a good feeling about Mickelson and Scott this weekend, as we think both of them will be in it at the end, also don’t forget Els played well the last time it was at Oakland Hills, as he came in tied for 5th.

Middle of the Pack: Retief Goosen +1800, Geoff Ogilvy +2000, Lee Westwood +2000, Justin Rose +2000, KJ Choi +2200, Luke Donald +2200, Henrick Stenson +2500, Trevor Immelman + 3000, and Paul Casey +3000
This group is worth taking a look at, as ou get some really solid golfers set to tee it up here. Guys like Rose, Choi and Westwood are all threats this weekend. Guys like Goosen and Ogilvy know what its like to win under the pressure of the majors, but if we are taking one guy out of this group it would be Choi.

Long Shots: Mike Weir +3300, Tim Clark +3500, Hunter Mahan +3500, Angel Cabrera +3500, David Toms +3500, Steve Stricker +4000, and Zach Johnson +4000
This group too has many great golfers set to play next weekend. Weir played well at the Oakland Hills back in 2003, and could be ready for another big run this weekend. David Toms won this thing back in 2001, and everyone is waiting to see when Zach Johnson is going to back up his Masters win from last year. But if our money is going on anyone in this group, it’s going to be Cabrera.
