2008 NCAA Tournament Predictions - South
Region

Its getting down to the wire to get those brackets
filled out for the NCAA Tournament, as the tournament is
set to get underway on Thursday March, 20. What makes
this tournament so great is that it could see a ton of
upsets or maybe the top teams are just that much better
and there won’t be near as many as previous years. Well
if you are looking for some last minute help to getting
that bracket just the way you want it, then you came to
the right place.
Lets take a look at what the South Region will bring us
this year. The #1 seed is the Memphis Tigers who simply
aren’t getting the credit they deserve from fans and
experts across the country. The bracket also has another
great team from down south in #2 Texas, who was the
regular season Big 12 Champions. There are two other
highly respected teams in this bracket in #4 Pitt and #3
Stanford, that have many fans believing they could be
the last two standings out of the South. Don’t worry we
are going to break down every game and give you our
Final Four team out of the South.
Round 1
The first round should pretty much go as planned in the
South as we see the only two upset coming in #10 St.
Mary’s taking down #7 Miami (Fla.), and #11 Kentucky
over #6 Marquette. While we like #1 Memphis, #2 Texas,
#3 Stanford, and #4 Pitt to all have easy first round
victories, we see #5 Michigan State having their hands
full. There will be a lot of people riding the 12 vs. 5
upset, but we are warning you to stay away from it here.
So keep it pretty simple in round 1 as more upsets will
come later on.
Round of 32
The only team we see mixing it up here is #11 Kentucky
taking down #3 Stanford. #2 Texas will have its hands
full with St. Mary’s, but should be able to take control
late for the victory. #4 Pitt should stay on a roll and
take out #5 Michigan State who has under performed all
season long. #1 Memphis should win big and don’t even
think about taking them out of your bracket early.
Sweet 16
#11 Kentucky really came on towards the end of the
season, and if they wouldn’t of had such a poor first
round performance, they would be a much higher seed than
they are. That is why we have them pulling off yet
another big upset when they take down #2 Texas in what
should be a great game to watch. While that game will be
great, its nothing compared to the #1 Memphis vs. #4
Pitt game that has everyone second-guessing themselves.
We are going to go with the Tigers, as we believe the
dribble drive offense will be too much for Pitts defense
to handle.
Elite 8
We are left with #1 Memphis vs. #11 Kentucky in two
teams that aren’t very far from each other, but rarely
get the chance to face off. While we really like this
Kentucky team we just don’t think it can keep the
Cinderella run going, as a win here would mean they beat
the #6, #3. #2, and #1 seeds in a matter of two weeks.
So take the Tigers as your team out of the South to
reach the Final Four.
