With the first short-track race of the season under wraps, racers don’t have to wait long for the second, as racing fans will be heading to Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia for the Goody’s Cool Orange 500. This will mark the 6th race of the season and it is set to get underway on March 20th around 1:30 US EDT. For all you fans that won’t be able to get out to the race track this weekend the race is set to be televised on FOX, so you won’t have to worry about missing a thing. Last week NASCAR fans seen Richard Childress racing dominate the Food City 500 at Bristol with three racers finishing in the top 3, led by Jeff Burton who took home the checkered flag thanks to a late wreck. Past success usually plays a big key at these short-track events, and that means well for last year’s winner Jimmie Johnson. This should be another fun and exciting week of racing, and here are our top 3 predictions for the race at Martinsville Speedway.

1. Kyle Busch at 7-1 at Sportsbook.com

Kyle Busch has been one of the most dominating racers this season as he has finished inside the top 5 twice with one victory coming at the Kobalt Tools 500. Busch kind of struggled last week at the Food City 500 with a 17th place finish, but we expect a big turnaround this week at Martinsville. Busch has had a lot of success of the last two years, with back-to-back top 5 finishes. We truly believe that this week Busch will be able to take home the checkered flag, and add to his already impressive season.

2. Jeff Gordon 5-1 at Sportsbook.com

Gordon is one of few drivers that have simply dominated this track as he continues to pile up top 5 finishes at Martinsville Speedway. With two races being ran on this track during the year, Gordon has finished in the top 10, ten straight times with 4 victories. So while past success hasn’t been playing out as it normally does this season, we will guarantee you will see Gordon towards the front of the pack by the end of the race.

3. Ryan Newman 12-1 at Sportsbook.com

Newman will come in to Martinsville as a sleeper, and while he is expected to have a solid race, a top 3 finish might not be what many people see coming. But how can you argue taking the guy who won the Daytona 500, which is considered the biggest race of the season. While Newman has never won at Martinsville, he has had five top 5 finishes at this track. Like Busch Newman struggles at the first short-track race of the season, but look for that experience to pay off this week as racing fans will once again see Newman around the head of the pack at the end of the race this week.
