On Saturday May
8th NASCAR fans will be treated to yet another night
racing event, when drivers head to Darlington Speedway
for the Dodge Challenger 500. Darlington Speedway has a
rich history, as it is the second oldest track on the
Sprint Cup series schedule. The first race was in 1950
and it hasn’t stopped since. What makes 2008 a different
years than many of the past is that the track received
new pavement have many racing experts expecting speeds
to reach near 200mph. This should make for another
entertaining week of racing. Last week racing fans were
treated to the Dan Lowry 400 presented by Crown Royal.
Clint Bowyer took home the victory, but Kyle Busch stole
the headlines. Busch took home a 2nd place finish that
put him in first place in the point standings for the
year, but he also managed to piss some people off. Busch
had some run-ins with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Rusty
Wallace, causing many fans to continue their hate for
Busch. It will be interesting to see if either Earnhardt
Jr. or Wallace has any kind of answer for Busch in this
week’s race. Well either way here is a look at our 1-2-3
weekly predictions.
We are picking the #88 car driven by Earnhardt Jr. to
come into this week more focused than ever this year.
Earnhardt Jr. wasn’t to happy with Busch and it ended up
causing him to finish 13th last week. Earnhardt Jr.
doesn’t have a win on the season, but comes into the
race 3rd in the point standings. Earnhardt Jr. has been
a little inconsistent during his career on this track,
but with back-to-back top 10 finishes here we see him
breaking through for his first win of the season.
We are picking the #16 car of Roush Racing to come in
2nd this weekend. Biffle has already had three top 5
finishes this season and is no stranger to Darlington
Speedway. Biffle has already notched two victories in
just 5 years of racing on this track, as he was able to
win back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006. Biffle might
be a surprise here as there are many other big names
sitting out there that we could of picked, but we have a
very strong feeling that Biffle is going to take
advantage of the fast speeds and have his best finish of
the year.
Finishing up our top 3 is the #99 car of Edwards, who is
also a member of Roush Racing. Edwards is no stranger to
victory lane in 2008, as he has already entered victory
lane three times. Edwards had a pretty solid finish last
week, with a 7th place finish. Edwards doesn’t have a
long history on this track, as he has only raced here
since 2004. What he does have is 3 top 10 finishes and
one bad finished caused by an engine problem. We expect
him to have a good car this week and help his point
standings with a 3rd place finish at the Dodge
Challenger 500.
