This week NASCAR is heading to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada for the UAW-Dodge 400. In the third race of the year Jimmie Johnson will look for his 4th straight Dodge 400 victory. If Johnson is able to win this week he will put his name in the record books with 3 other drivers who have accomplished this feat. He would join the likes of Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, and teammate Jeff Gordon. Both Gordon and Petty have been able to this task twice. While Johnson has the chance to become the sixth member of this group, he has the chance to become the only racer to win four races in a row at a track that has only one race a year. Johnson was pretty impressive last week but finished second to Carl Edward who will look for his second win in a row after he took home the victory last week at the Auto Club 500. The Dodge 400 started in 1998 when Mark Martin took home the checkered flag. While Johnson won the first two of his three in a row here on the older track, last year the Las Vegas Motor Speedway upgraded to a brand new dynamic, faster version of the old track. Lets take a look at two racers this week that we think have a good chance to be in line to head to victory lane.

Jimmie Johnson 9-2 at BetUS

There is no doubt that Jimmie Johnson is the racer to beat, as he is the two-time defending NASCAR Spring Cup Champion. It’s hard to go against someone that has dominated this event for three years running now. Johnson has shown that he can dominate the intermediate tracks with both the old car, and the new car which he won with five times last year. Last week was the first race of the year using the new car of today and Johnson was in line to win it till he slipped to second late in the race. Johnson, Gordon, and Earnhardt Jr. are all part of the Hendricks racing team that dominates the car of today. We won’t be surprised if sometime this season the three all finish in the top 3. This week we like Johnson to lead the pack; it’s his race and his track.

Denny Hamlin 15-1 at BetUS

Hamlin stole the show early this year winning the Daytona 500, starting off the season with a win at the biggest race of the year. While Hamlin’s year will be remembered no matter how he finishes the year, because of the magnitude of winning the Daytona 500. While Johnson has stole the show the last few years, Hamlin has been pretty impressive himself at the Las Vegas Speedway. Though Hamlin has never won in the events short 10-race history, he is one of three drivers that average a top ten finish at this track. He had a pretty solid performance last year as he finished 3rd. If Johnson is unable to make history this week we think Hamlin could sneak in for a victory and start the year out winning two of the first three races.
