2008 Crown Royal Dan Lowry 400 Predictions & Odds to Win
June 8, 2008
After a crazy week at Talladega for the Aaron’s 499, that saw Kyle Busch come all the way back to secure his 2nd win of the season. This week NASCAR is backing their bags and heading to Richmond, Virginia for another big weekend of racing. This week drivers will be attacking Richmond International Speedway for the Dan Lowry 400 presented by Crown Royal. The race is set to get underway on Saturday May 3rd for the first of three straight Saturday night races. Like many of the races so far this year Jimmie Johnson will come in as the defending champion here. This marks the second year in a row that the race has held an essay contest with the winner getting the race named after them. Last year many of you might remember that the race was named after the James Stewart. It really doesn’t matter what the name of the race is, just the track and the guys driving on it. Here is a look at who we think will do well this week at the Dan Lowry 400.
#88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 10/1 odds at Sportsbook.com
It seems like we just can’t get away from picking this guy. He has yet to win a race, but just seems to have a car that is in contention week after week. This guy is going to get his share of victories this season; it’s just a matter of when he gets that first one. Earnhardt Jr. has a pretty good past on this track as he has won here three times over his career, including numerous top ten finishes. Earnhardt Jr. was in it for a while last week, but ended up finishing the race in 10th place. To show you just how good this guy has been he is 3rd in points without a single win this season, and Carl Edwards is 10th with 3 wins on the season. Earnhardt Jr. is a great bet this weekend, as he is getting a little better betting odds than normal.
#29 Kevin Harvick 15/1 odds at Sportsbookc.com
Here is a guy that really started the season off strong with five top tens in his first six starts before his current slide of four straight finishes outside of the top ten. This should be a good week for Harvick to get back on track as he has a lot of success at Richmond International Speedway. Where in the last three years he has finished in the top five all three times, and if you add in the race that is ran on this same track later in the season he has six straight top 10 finishes, including a win on this track in 2006. Another key stat about Harvick is that he has consistently had a good starting position, as he has started all but one race at 7 or better. So even with Harvick’s slide of late we really like his chances this week, especially in a year where you just don’t seem to know what’s going to happen.
