2008 Coca Cola 600 Predictions & Odds to Win

June 8, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

This Memorial Day weekend NASCAR fans are in for a treat as the Coca Cola 600 is set to get underway this Saturday night. If you can’t get enough racing action then this is your race as this 600-mile race is the longest of any race held on an oval track in the world. While the drivers probably aren’t the biggest fans of being in a car for 4 hours, they should of enjoyed a week of staying put as they were no travel plans needed from last weeks race as this race will be held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the same track that the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race was held at last week. Casey Mears is the defending champion here at the Coca Cola 600 and it remains the only win of his career. With it unlikely that Mears is able to repeat lets take a look at our 1-2-3 prediction for this week’s race.

1.Jimmie Johnson 6-1 at Sportsbook.com

Johnson continued his success at Lowe’s Motor Speedway last weekend with a 4th place finish last week. Johnson continues to flirt with getting back the form that made him the points champion the last two seasons. Last year Mears was able to end Johnson’s streak of 3 straight wins here at the Coca Cola 600, as Johnson ended the race in 10th. While Johnson has set such high standards that this season seems like disappoint so far, but there is plenty of season left to turn things around. Johnson is our pick to withstand the long race and win yet another race on this track.

2. Matt Kenseth 10-1 at Sportsbook.com

The #17 car has had a pretty rough season this year for Roush Racing, but we are thinking that with last weeks 3rd place finish at the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race. Though the race didn’t count towards the point standings, it was easily Kenseth’s best race of the year. Kenseth has seemed to perform well on this track and he even has a win here at this event back in 2000. Expect a lot of lead changes to take place and we just got a good feeling that Kenseth and company are going to manage the race right and have a shot when it gets down to the final few laps of the race.

3. Kyle Busch 9-2 at Sportsbook.com

We are taking NASCAR bad boy Kyle Busch to continue his dominant stretch and continue to anger fans all over as his style of racing. Busch will love nothing more than to continue pissing people off with yet another top 3 finish this weekend. The reason we don’t have this guy up top is that he has yet to win on this track in his career, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have another solid finish. Last week Busch had engine problems that landed him a 24th place finish. With a chance to get a little more use to the track and being the great driver that he is look for Busch to have another big weekend and increase his point lead.
