2008 PGA TOUR BMW Championship Picks & Odds

September 3, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

The PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoffs continue to roll on this weekend, as Vijay Singh will look to make it 3 for 3 after winning the Deutsche Bank Championship last week. After last week the field was cut down to just 70 golfers, and those 70 will make their attempt to win this weekend at the 2008 BMW Championship, held at St. Louis Bellerive Country Club this year. One thing for sure is that no player will be playing this weekend that has won this event before, as the only guy to hold the trophy is the defending champion Tiger Woods. To get you going on the tournament this weekend professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to take a closer look at the odds for the BMW Championship.

Favorites: Vijay Singh +600, Sergio Garcia +900, Phil Mickelson +1200, and Jim Furyk +1500
If you have been paying attention at all to the playoffs then you know that Singh has been playing some of the best golf of the season, and its all thanks to one heck of a putting stroke he has going. Mickelson has yet to show any real sign that he is going to make a push for the playoff championship. While Furyk stepped his game up to finish tied for 7th, Garcia came ever so close again to a win before falling in the final round. We think this weekend Garcia finally grabs that win, and makes it a 2 man show going into the final round of the playoffs.

Middle of the Pack: Ernie Els +2000, Padraig Harrington +2000, Anthony Kim +2500, Justin Leonard +2500, Mike Weir +2500, Camilo Villegas +3000, Steve Stricker +3000, and KJ Choi +3000
This group has plenty of talented golfers thats for sure, as guys like Villegas, Weir, and Els all finished in the top 3 last weekend. Stricker and Els also played well, but Harrington, the guy everyone thought was going to have a lot of success in these playoffs disappointed once again by failing to make the cut. The guy we like this week is Leonard, who continues to play well over the last few weeks.

Long Shots: Adam Scott +4000, Angel Cabrera +4000,Stewart Cink +4000, Robert Allenby +4000, Hunter Mahan +4000, Ken Duke +4000, Ben Curtis +5000, Chad Campbell +5000, Carl Pettersson +5000, and Kenny Perry +5000
Even though this is a group full of long shots, guys like Campbell, Mahan, Curtis, and Perry will all be part of the US Ryder Cup team. Campbell earned the last spot on the team after he shot 69 66 to finish 7th last week at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Though we feel almost a handful of these guys could win, the guy we have our eye on is Cink, who we feel is ready for a big time performance this weekend.
