The 2008 Belmont Stakes odds are not posted and its time to make your wagers. The Belmont is the last leg of the Triple Crown which will be held at Belmont Park in New York. The great thing about the 2008 Belmont Stakes is the fact that we have another potential Triple Crown winner. There has been 10 horses to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown since 1978, only to fall short at the Belmont. This could be due to the fact that the Belmont is longer race than both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, the two races proceeding the Belmont Stakes. The Belmont is known as “The Test of Champions” for its 1 ½ mile length. It will be interesting to see if Big Brown has the endurance to finish off the Triple Crown, because its certain he has the speed.

Let’s take a look at the 2008 Belmont Stakes odds posted for the 10 horses in the field:

1.) Big Brown at 1/3 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

Big Brown is now undefeated in five career starts after winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. It might be a wise move to lay all your money down on this favored horse, but there are no guarantees considering their hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner in 30 years.

2.) Guadalcanal at 40/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

This horse is getting the second worst odds in the field. There isn’t much to like here so don’t waste your money.

3.) Macho Again at 33/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

A solid winner of the Churchill Downs’ Derby Trial, Macho Again has been an on-again-off-again prospect for the Preakness Stakes. But this horse has been penciled in for the Belmont as it’s main target and could be a sleeper in this 10-horse field to compete with Big Brown.

4.) Denis of Cork at 10/1 odds to win the Belmonst Stakes:

This horse owns the pedigree to handle the grueling distance of the 1 ½ mile Belmont. He’s from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 hero Harlan’s Holiday, a grandson of the mighty Storm Cat who has gotten off to a terrific start at stud.

5.) Casino Drive at 7/2 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

Casino Drive is sired by 2008 Horse of the Year, Mineshaft. His dam is the Deputy Minister mare Better than Honour, who is also the dam of Belmont Stakes winners Jazil in 2006 and Rags to Riches in 2007. This is the #1 challenger to take down Big Brown on Saturday, June 7th.

6.) Da’ Tara at 33/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

His maiden win at Gulfstream in January is still his only win. Since then he was 3rd in an allowance, 9th in the Florida Derby, 5th in the Derby Trial at Churchill Downs, and 2nd in the Barbaro Stakes on Preakness day. This horse likely won’t even contend with all these mediocre finishes under its belt.

7.) Tale of Ekati at 16/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

This experienced pony has 3 wins and a 2nd place finish in 7 career starts. Should be a factor in this field.

8.) Anak Nakal at 40/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

Winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill Downs in November, is working out at Palm Meadows. Finished a dismal 8th in the Fountain of Youth at Gulfstream Park and disappointed again with a 7th place finish in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn. Now you can see why this horse is such a longshot.

9.) Ready’s Echo at 40/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

Ready’s Echo was 2nd in an allowance at Keeneland and 3rd in the Peter Pan Stakes, beaten 6 1/4 lengths by Casino Drive. By getting dominated by Casino Drive at the Peter Pan Stakes, it’s tough to give this horse a shot.

10.) Icabad Crane at 50/1 odds to win the Belmont Stakes:

Like Preakness winner Big Brown, Icabad Crane also came into the second jewel of the Triple Crown with just four lifetime starts; and again, like the Derby winner, he won his only outing at age two. Maybe this inexperience will pay off and Icabad can make a run as he only gets better with time. At 50/1 odds, it might be worth a shot.
