Belmont Stakes Bets Guide 2008

Get ready to make your 2008 Belmont Stakes bets and wagers heading into the last leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, June 7th. The Belmont Stakes has been running ever since 1867 and has 140 years of history behind it. This article is for those of you that don’t understand horse racing and need help with your bets. Let’s take a look at the different bets that can be made on race day.

Win:

This horse bet is the most popular wager of them all. You have to correctly predict which horse will win the race. The Belmont Stakes odds show you the chances that a certain horse has to win the race outright. As of right now, Big Brown is a 1/3 favorite to win the Belmont. That means for every $3 you wager, you are going to win $1 on your investment. These odds don’t sound too great, but with a freakish horse like Big Brown it may be worth it.

Place:

This wager is to try and pick out a horse that can either finish in first or second for a successful wager. This bet is very popular for more of the longshots. You get paid the exact same amount whether your horse finishes first or second. Betting Big Brown or Casino Drive won’t win you much for a Place wager, but if you take some bigger longshots such as Icabad Crane at 50/1 odds or Macho Again at 33/1 odds you will be sitting pretty by the end of the Belmont Stakes if either comes through.

Show:

A Show bet is for those of us that don’t like to really take much of a gamble. All you have to do is have you selected horse finish in the Top 3 and you’re going to cash in your ticket at the pay window. Your win by be very minimal, but your chances of cashing in are much, much higher with this wager. If you are a first-time horse bettor than Show bets are probably ideal for you to start.

Quinella:

Pick the two horses that will finish first and second in any order. If only one of your horses comes in, you won’t get paid. But for $2 this is a very enticing bet because the payouts can be huge.

Exacta:

An Exacta bet is one of the most popular horse bets when picking multiple ponies. It’s the same as a quinella, except the two horses you have picked have to finish in the exact order you picked them. Say you take Big Brown to win and Casino Drive to place, you would say, “I want an Exacta with #1 over #5″. This is because Big Brown has the No. 1 post and Casino Drive has the No. post position to start the race. This is a $2 wager at most places. But you can also do an Exacta Box, which is an extra $2 so a $4 wager in all. The Exacta Box gets you both horses and they can finish in any order for a winning ticket.

Trifecta:

Trifecta wagering is also very popular in that it gives you the chance to win thousands on just a small bet. You have to pick the top 3 finishing horses in that exact order to hit a Trifecta wager. But most bettors will do a Trifecta Box, which gives you all 3 horses in any order. A straight Trifecta with 3 horses costs $2, but a Trifecta Box with 3 horses will cost you $12. You will be kicking yourself if you bet a straight Trifecta and hit the 3 horses but not in the right order, and you don’t have them boxed so you don’t win.

Make your 2008 Belmont Stakes bets this weekend by wagering safely and within your limits. The great aspect of horse betting is the fact that you can actually wager a little to win a fortune. Have fun this weekend and hopefully your Belmont Stakes bets can win you a nice chunk of change by race’s end.
