This week Jason Lowry is going to take a look at the European Tour, as some of golfs best are getting ready to tee it up for the 2008 Barclays Scottish Open this weekend. Many golfers take this as a chance to get a little more familiar with what they will be dealing with in a couple weeks at the British Open. One big name that was added to field is current No. 1 golfer it the world Phil Mickelson, since Tiger Woods is out of action for at least the remainder of the 2008 season. The tournament is set to get underway this Thursday July 10th at Loch Lomond Golf Club and it will be the 12 time the tournament has been played at this course. Last year Gregory Harvret of France was able to take home the trophy, but with a field full of talented golfers it could be anyones game this weekend. To get a good idea at what the field is like this weekend Jason Lowry is going to take a look at the odds for the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and some long shots with a shot to win this weekend.

Favorites: Phil Mickelson 8/1, Ernie Els 10/1, Adam Scott 12/1, and Lee Westwood 14/1
An American hasn’t won this event since Tom Lehman did so back in 1997, so it might be tough for Mickelson to win this week, but a strong performance could go a long way in him playing at the British Open the following week. Els and Westwood have both won this tournament in the past, and Scott is this years leading in putting and green in regulation on the European Tour. If we had to pick one it would be Scott to pull out the win this week.

Middle of the Pack: Soren Hanson 25/1, Henrick Stenson 25/1, Andres Romero 28/1, Ian Poulter 33/1, Miguel Angel Jimenez 33/1, Ross Fisher 33/1, Thomas Levet 33/1, and Colin Mongomerie 33/1
This group is very capable of coming through with the best performance this weekend. We really like what you get in guys Romero, Jimenez, and Fisher you have to think one of these guys could win it. But if you are looking for the surprise pick out of this group it just might be Stenson.

Long Shots: Graeme McDowell 40/1, Soren Kjeldsen 40/1, Oliver Wilson 50/1, Darren Clarke 50/1, Nick Dougherty 50/1, Daniel Chopra, Gregory Havret 66/1, Johan Edfors 66/1, and Thomas Bjorn 80/1
Here is where it get tougher to find just the right pick, with their being so many guys that are labeled as long shots, you have to really be on to pick the right guy. We think we have done so in this group as you not only get guys that have won this tournament in the past, you get guys like Oliver Wilson who is currently 4th on the money list, and Nick Dougherty who is only 2nd to Scott in putting average. We like Wilson, but its tough telling on this one.
