2008 PGA TOUR The Barclays Odds
With the PGA Tour’s regular season in the books after Carl Pettersson took home the Wyndham Championship last week, its time to head to the 2nd year of the playoffs. The first stop is the Barclays in New Jersey at Ridgewood Country Club. With the FedEX Cup at stakes its pretty much anyone game, but its definitely a lot easier if you are near the top. Right now Kenny Perry technically sits in 2nd to Tiger Woods, but with him out he is the leader going into the playoffs. Close behind you have guys like Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, and Anthony Kim, so it should be an exciting time. To help get you going on the Barclays, professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to breakdown the field by taking a look at the odds for the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots he thinks can win this weekend.
Favorites:
Phil Mickelson +800, Padraig Harrington +1000, and Sergio Garcia +1200
As of right now there is a pretty good chance that one of these 3 guys takes home the FedEx Cup trophy when its all said and done. Both Mickelson and Harrington sit right near the top, and Garcia isn’t to far behind. While its hard to go against Mickelson without Tiger in the field, we are going to take Harrington, as he has been playing much better golf as of late. We also expect to see Garcia to have a solid showing this year, as he has won here twice before.
Middle of the Pack:
Retief Goosen +2200, Jim Furyk +2500, Anthony Kim +2500, Ernie Els +2800, Adam Scott +3000, Vijay Singh +3000, and Stuart Appleby +3000
There is quite the group of talent here, as you have many of golfs older players that still have could come out with a hot stick and take home a surprising victory. When it comes down to it there is one golfer that really sticks out this week and for the whole thing, and thats Kim. Singh and Els have both won this event multiple times before it became a playoff event, and could very easily be one of the guys taking home the trophy this week.
Long Shots:
Camilo Villegas +3500, Stewart Cink +4000, Kenny Perry +4000, Steve Stricker +4000, Robert Allenby +4000, Geoff Ogilvy +4000, Carl Pettersoon +5000, and Sean O’Hair +5000
This list could of went on quite awhile, as there are a ton of golfers with long shot odds this weekend, but these are the ones we think have the best shot at pulling off the big win this weekend. Stricker is the defending champion, so you have to give him a serious chance. Almost everyone of these golfers still have a shot at winning the playoffs, but they need to start it off with a good performance this week. If we had to pick someone to win out of this group alone, it would have to be Kenny Perry, who could really add to his lead with a win this weekend.
