2008 AT&T National Tournament Preview & Odds
June 30, 2008
While Tiger Woods won’t be out on the course teeing it up this weekend, he will have a big part in the tournament this weekend, as he gets ready to host the 2nd annual AT&T National Tournament that helps benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation. The tournament is set to get underway on Thursday July 3rd at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Last year K.J. Choi was able to take home the trophy in pretty easy fashion shooting 9 under for a 3 shot win over Steve Stricker. With many of the big names taking the week off to likely relax and spend time with their families, there is sure to be plenty of fireworks from those golfers who plan on attacking the course this weekend. Professional handicapper Jason Lowry is going to help you take a closer look at the tournament this weekend by breaking down the favorites, guys in the middle of the pack, and the long shots with a shot to win this weekend.
Favorites :
Jim Furyk 12/1, Mike Weir 20/1, Hunter Mahan 20/1, Stuart Appleby 25/1, Anthony Kim 25/1, and Robert Allenby 25/1
There is plenty to like in this group as almost every player in this group played well here last year. Furyk and Appleby had the best finishes as they both tied for 3rd. While Fuyrk is the overwhelming favorite this weekend we really like Mahan as well. Kim is another guy you need to look out for, as it seems like whenever he plays good this year he is usually right around the top of the leaderboard.
Middle of the Pack:
Aaron Baddeley 30/1, Ben Crane 30/1, Camilo Villegas 30/1, KJ Choi 30/1, Rod Pampling 30/1, Steve Stricker 30/1, and Trevor Immelman 30/1
This group has your defending champion in KJ Choi, and you can’t go wrong taking the defending champion. Stricker is another guy who played well here last season as he finished in 2nd all by himself. You also get the Masters champion Immelman as well, but the guy you might want to keep your eye on is Villegas this weekend.
Long Shots:
Lucas Glover 40/1, Brandt Snedeker 40/1, Bryant 50/1, Fred Couples 50/, Rocco Mediate 50/1, Pat Perez 50/1, DJ Trahan 60/1, and Jeff Quinney 60/1
We are big on some of the long shots this weekend as we feel that many of these guys can take home the trophy this weekend. We love what you get out of Snedeker and Perez both finished in the top 10 here a year ago. Rocco was the great story of the US Open and might be able to get his win this weekend, as he played well here last season finishing tied for 8th. You also get some pretty good odds on Trahan and Quinney, who if things click this weekend they could be right in the thick of things.
