Odds to Win the 2007 US Open Golf Tournament

June 6, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

Sportsbook.com lists the 2007 U.S. Open Odds for this week’s major taking place June 14th-17th at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. It comes as no surprise that two-time U.S. Open champ Tiger Woods in listed at the 2/1 favorite for this major tournament. Four-time U.S. Open runner-up Phil Mickelson is next on the list at 9/2 odds followed by former champions Jim Furyk and Ernie Els at 15/1 odds. Surprisingly, Vijay Singh is also listed at 15/1 odds in front of Retief Goosen who is a two-time U.S. Open champ winning twice this decade. If you are looking for a solid value bet on a top contender, Goosen could be your goose at 25/1 odds.

Tiger Woods, who seems like he wins just about ever major, hasn’t won the U.S. Open since 2002 at Bethpage. Another win in the Open and he would break away from the 16 golfers knotted at two U.S. Open Championships and he would tie with Hale Irwin for second all-time with three. The golfer who the media continually links Tiger too, Jack Nicklaus, is tied for the most all-time U.S. Open victories with four.

Mickelson fans are thinking this could be the year for Lefty. Lefty is tied for the most all-time U.S. Open runner-up finishes with some elite company which features Arnold Palmer, the Golden Bear, Robert Jones Jr., and Sam Snead. Lefty’s runner-up finishes have come in 1999, 2002, 2004, and 2006. He started this pattern in 2002 of every two years coming in second. Maybe it will be Phil’s year to win the Open since it’s not an even year.

The Odds are varying between sportsbooks for this major tournament. So make sure you check around for the best possible value. For Example, Tiger Woods is listed at 14/5 odds at Bodog followed by Phil Mickelson at 8/1 odds and Vijay Singh at 16/1 and Els, Furyk, and Adam Scott at 20/1.
