2007 Tennessee Titans NFL Picks & Predictions

A team on the rise is what most people see with their 2007 Titans predictions, but even with last year’s surprising success this team lost a lot of talent in the off-season and will have to continue to rebuild.  Gone is Travis Henry, Drew Bennett, and Bobby Wade from the offense.  Pacman Jones won’t see any time this season due to his year-long suspension for violating the league’s conduct policy.  Even with all the hype generated by their 8-3 close to the season last year, and how they were one win against the Pats in their season finale from making the playoffs, getting to 8-8 this year will be a stretch.

It seemed like everything went right for Vince Young last season, but expect some growing pains to be shown this year.  He needs to be more accurate and a better quarterback in general, even though some of those mistakes will be forgiven when he takes it to the ground and generates big plays.  At running back Tennessee is going to have to count on some production from second-year guy LenDale White out of USC and their second-rounder from this year Chris Henry out of Arizona.  Wide Receiver is going to be an ever bigger problem for the Titans as David Givens is still battling knee problems, which leaves Brandon Jones, Justin Gage, and a handful of draft picks.  Not exactly a group you would want to see help your second-year QB grow into a better passer.

Defensively is where this team is going to have to shine in order to threaten the .500 mark.  Up front their only big names are Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch, but if the other two guys paired up with them can’t produce then all the heat will be directly at these two.  At linebacker you will see Keith Bullock continue to be one of the best in the business at the outside position, but Ryan Fowler and David Thornton are going to have to step it up a little bit in order to slow the opposition’s offense.  In the secondary Chris Hope and Michael Griffin will have a lock down on the safety position and give the Titans a nice pair.  Corners will be Nick Harper and Reynaldo Hill, who if they produce will let Tennessee forget Pacman even after he’s reinstated by the league.

The Titans caught some breaks last season and ended up 8-8.  The team lost more than it added or grew, so we are expecting this squad to end up in the 6-10 range.  This is a solid bet for the UNDER win total, and one that we are recommending to our readers.  As far as their chances of beating the Colts and Jags to win the division, forget about it this season.  Get Vince some help on offense and this team can compete, until then they are going to be sitting in the bottom half.
