Odds to Win the 2007 St Jude Golf Tournament
June 6, 2008
Tiger Woods is staying true to his usual formula of not playing the week before a major. This strategy has treated him pretty well in the past. With Woods out of the picture Sportsbook.com has made Vijay Singh the favorite to win this week’s Stanford St. Jude Championship in their 2007 St. Jude Odds.

Singh is being listed at 8/1 odds followed by Phil Mickelson at 10/1, Adam Scott at 10/1, and David Toms at 15/1. Singh tied for 15th in last week’s Memorial Tournament which was good enough for Sportsbook.com to make him the pole sitter with the fact that Lefty hasn’t played a tournament since winning The Players Championship a month ago.
Adam Scott backers likely lost a little value after his performance at the Memorial last week when he tied for fifth and shot a tournament best score of 62 in the second round. We also have to remember that with Woods sitting out of a tournament, all the money normally placed on him will be dispersed so some of the other notable players won’t be such large long shots as there chances to win the tournament improve when golf’s best player is not playing. However, this is a situation when we need to determine if the books are overvaluing players or still undervaluing them. Find out in Larry Cook’s 2007 St. Jude Predictions who he feels is getting undervalued.
David Toms is a two-time winner of this event winning it back-to-back in 2003 and 2004 so Sportsbook.com has put him on the radar at 15/1 odds despite no wins in 2007. Perhaps this is a case of overvaluing a player?
After interpreting the odds and weighing how each player’s game stacks up with TPC at Southwind among other factors, it’s apparent that none of the 50/1 long shots are worth a pull and pray attempt. The 20/1 club of Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, and Geoff Ogilvy look to be serious contenders however.
