2007 Seattle Seahawks NFL Predictions & Preview

June 5, 2008 | Posted By Larry Cook

With our 2007 Seahawks predictions we see a team that will once again make the playoffs, but we are a little wary that this team can do damage in the playoffs or the Super Bowl.  Age and injuries are starting to catch up to Seattle, who has been the NFC’s mainstay with three straight division titles.  It is going to be a little bit tougher for this team to repeat this season with Arizona and San Francisco making strides and the Rams still being a formidable opponent.  The team will most likely make it through the NFC West, but the team’s window of competing for Super Bowls is closing fast, if it isn’t already.

Matt Hasselbeck is a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, but he must remain healthy if this team is going to have a chance to make a run.  Last year he completed only 56% of his passes and threw 18 TDs to 15 picks for his lowest passer rating of 76 since 2001.  At running back the team still has Shaun Alexander, but this guy is 30 and is coming off a season filled with injuries.  He was limited to 10 games, 896 yards and 7 TDs after recording 27 TDs in 2005.  At wide receiver there aren’t any stars, but a stable of dependables.  Darrell Jackson is gone to division rival San Francisco, but they still have Deion Branch and DJ Hackett to fill in.  Bobby Engram is getting up there in age, but as a fourth option should be effective in a limited role.

The defense got a boost by acquiring Patrick Kerney, who the team is hoping to return to Pro Bowl form after leaving Atlanta.  Chuck Darby is the leader of the line at tackle, and even though he’s small for a tackle he still goes all out on every play.  Bryce Fisher moves to left end after the arrival of Kerney.  Seattle does have probably the best set of linebackers in the NFL, which will make this defense tough to score on.  Julian Peterson came over from the 49ers and performed up to expectations.  LeRoy Hill is a third-year guy who picked it up to end the season and Lofa Tatupu is a two-time Pro Bowler who anchors the unit even though he’s only been in the league two years.  At secondary the team was killed by injuries last year so they wanted depth at the position.  Kelly Jennings and Marcus Trufant are talented corners.  Brian Russell comes over for Cleveland and Deon Grant is definitely an upgrade over Michael Boulware.

Seattle will win the West.  We are pretty certain of that even though there are plenty of teams that will be contending.  This team is going to be 10-6 or 11-5 by season’s end, so we feel pretty confident in taking the OVER 9 win total.  As far as the NFC and Super Bowl odds, these are not bad numbers so they are worth a look if you are interested in a big return on a futures wager.
