2007 NFC South Predictions & Season Preview
It seems like our team is always big on Seattle and with our 2007 NFC West predictions we aren’t going to go any different. The ground between the Seahawks and the rest of the division is narrowing though with the 49ers and Cardinals catching up fast and the Rams needing just a little push to get over the hump and back into the playoffs. This is going to be a good division to watch because it will be so unpredictable, but we think we have some answers for those of you who want to do a little futures betting on this division.
First Place – 2007 Seattle Seahawks Predictions – Seattle saw themselves coming back to the pack last season, but the team is blaming their performance on injury trouble. If the offense stays healthy they have a balanced attack with one of the best in the league, Shaun Alexander, going along with Matt Hasselbeck and a deep receiving corps. On defense the team probably lost more than they gained when they let go of Ken Hamlin and Grant Winstrom, but they have plenty of talent on this side of the ball with Patrick Kerney, Julian Peterson, Lofa Tatupu, and Marcus Trufant. This team will be the best in the division talent wise, and will have enough to contend for the Super Bowl if things go right.
Second Place – 2007 San Francisco 49ers Predictions – San Fran exceeded expectations last year and almost made the playoffs. This year there is a lot of hype surrounding the team and all the teams they play will not be treating them as a pushover. The defense should be improved with Nate Clements, Michael Lewis, and more helping to turn things around. On offense Alex Smith is starting to live up to the promise and Frank Gore showed why he’s one of the top backs in the league. A shot at the playoffs is in site, and the team wants to get over the hump after last season’s 7-9 record.
Third Place – 2007 St. Louis Rams Predictions – The Rams season is going to turn on how well Jim Haslett can get this defense turned around. On offense Marc Bulger is capable of making Pro Bowls, Steven Jackson is one of the top-five running backs in the league, and Torry Holt is one of the top-five receivers in the league. St. Louis averaged over 27 ppg last season, and they should be poised to do the same again this year. Defensively the team was 31st against the rush, allowing 145.4 ypg on the ground. It’ll be the same team on this side of the ball again this year for the most part, so they are going to have to improve and get more comfortable in Haslett’s system.
Fourth Place – 2007 Arizona Cardinals Predictions – This team has been talented for the last couple of years and a popular pick to make the playoffs. Don’t take the bait this year as it will be a transition period for new head coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff. The Cards will be exciting to watch with a young playmaker in Matt Leinart at QB, a work horse in Edgerrin James running the ball, and two Pro Bowl receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. The team didn’t anything that they didn’t care to lose and brought in some help. You probably will see an improvement over 5-11, but not much.
