You’re going to have to come up with a damn good reason not to side with the race favorite Jimmie Johnson this Saturday. Even you value hunters might decide to play favorites. Johnson won the event collecting a one million dollar paycheck last year at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and has seven wins at Lowe’s in his career. He also has more checkered flags with four than any other driver in 2007 including Jeff Gordon, his teammate and points leader.
One driver we can rule out this Saturday is Tony Stewart who has been all talk and no walk in 2007. He has two top five finishes and seven top 10’s, but he has no wins in 2007. This comes as a huge surprise as many futures bettors made Stewart their man to win the Nextel Cup. He has a decent history at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with one win, six top fives, and nine top 10’s, but the field has been better than him on every race track this season and it will be again this Saturday.
Since Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Mark Martin are the only current drivers with multiple wins in this event, they have to be among the last drivers for you to rule out. Of these three drivers, Mark Martin is showing the best value at 12/1 odds. Martin is winless in 2007, but has four top five finishes and five top 10 finishes and one can argue that he races better at Lowe’s than just about any other track. He has two wins, 12 top fives, and 14 top 10’s at the Motor Speedway. If you’re looking for more value than the Hendrick Motorsports All-Star duo, you may want to take a close look at Mark Martin.
The other guy value hunters will likely go after is Dale Earnhardt Jr. who is in need of a big win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway to take the heat off his DEI situation and his cheating allegations. He’s had a rough 2007 which has been more about off the track matters than on. He is well documented at loving this event because it reminds him of his early days of racing balls to the wall sprint races. He just might have the most motivation to take the checkered flag this Saturday. You can get Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 12/1 odds at Bodog.
