With Troy Smith and Brady Quinn out of the picture, college football’s biggest individual honor could go to Arkansas Razorbacks running back Darren McFadden. He actually edged out Quinn last year in the voting, finishing second place behind Smith. Bodog has listed him as their favorite at 3/1 odds to win the Heisman, but if the Razorback’s don’t get past LSU in the SEC West, which we don’t think they will, McFadden will come up short of this honor yet again.

Louisville’s star QB, Brian Brohm, has also been highly touted and is listed at 7/2 odds. Because he plays in an overall weaker conference, we know that the Cardinals will have the wins to support his selection and he will likely have colossal numbers to support his argument for this prestigious award, but with West Virginia likely collecting top honors in the East, he comes up short as well.

Michigan tailback Mike Hart came in fifth in the voting last season and is currently listed at 10/1 odds. His teammate, QB Chad Henne, is also among the favorites at 15/1 odds. John David Booty, USC’s premier passer, figures to get plenty of attention at 5/1 and West Virginia’s star tailback Steve Slaton is listed at 9/2 along with teammate QB Pat White at 15/1 odds.

With Michigan and West Virginia each boasting a pair of Heisman candidates we can expect both of these programs to make a push for a national title this season. Tim Tebow is the signal caller for the defending national champion Florida Gators, but even at 12/1 odds, I feel he is overvalued as he is yet to prove himself as a passer in the collegiate game. I would suggest staying away from him as I don’t see Heisman potential there yet.

Colt Brennan is the QB of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors who puts up some enormous numbers, but seems to be overvalued as well at 7/1 odds. He finished 6th in last year’s vote and suffers from lack of T.V. exposure and strength of schedule. I think he makes the trip to New York but does not come home with the hardware this season. This has been a QB-dominated Award in recent history so I think you props bettors should take a strong look at West Virginia’s Pat White. Slaton takes some attention away from him as they play on the same team, but the Moutaineers have national championship potential this season and I have a strong feeling that it will be White who makes the big plays in the biggest games as the ball will be in his hands more often. He is showing solid value at 15/1 odds and gives us an excellent shot at cashing in this wager.
