2007 New York Giants NFL Picks & Predictions

The InfoPlays 2007 Giants predictions do not show a playoff run, which will mean the end of Tom Coughlin as head coach in New York. The team decided to go younger and faster, which would be exactly what a first-year coach with plenty of time would want to hear. However, being in the last season of your contract and the crowds gunning for your head after back-to-back playoff performances means you would have liked to see more veteran free-agent signings. Coughlin is a real hard-ass, and players are willing to put up with it for championships, not when they are missing the playoffs.

What can you say about this offense. Eli Manning has gotten off to hot starts over the past two years, but he keeps going down the drain as the season rolls on. The good news was the Giants played so well over the first half of the season that they still made the playoffs, but getting their was largely on Tiki Barber’s shoulders. Manning not only has to advance in his numbers, but he also needs to improve his presence on the field so the team can get a little more confidence in their leader. Brandon Jacobs is a big-bruiser who can definitely pick up first downs in short yardage situations, but can he carry the load? The good news for Giants backers is that they also signed Reuben Droughns who has more than one 1,000 yard season under his belt. This should be a decent 1-2 combo in the backfield. Manning should be able to progress with a talented group of pass catchers in Plaxico Burress, Jeremy Shockey, and rookie Steve Smith. A couple of guys are also coming off injury in Amani Toomer and Sinorice Moss.

The Giants defense is talented along the line, but after that it gets a little shaky. Michael Strahan should be able to return to full strength after his foot problems from a year ago, as will Justin Tuck. The team is deep along the line as well which should help them dominate the line of scrimmage and both create a pass rush and stuff the opposition’s ground game. The linebacker corps lost three of their starters from a year ago, including Lavar Arrington. They will be young now, but there is Pro Bowler Antonio Pierce there to help lead the way. Last year’s No. 1 draft pick Mathias Kiwanuka should have a pretty good year and could be the deciding factor as to whether this unit will be improved. The secondary is pretty weak with Sam Madison getting old and Corey Webster and Aaron Ross still being pretty raw. The safeties started picking up the slack to end last year, hopefully they have a full season of aggressive play in them.

The Giants are going to struggle and I don’t seem them making the playoffs, nor finishing 9-7. Take the UNDER and stay away from them when betting on the NFC East, NFC, or Super Bowl champs.
