2007 Miami Dolphins Predictions & Season Preview

Taking a look at our 2007 Dolphins predictions shows that we think this team is going to be ready to roll in 2008, but this year is going to be full of growing pains for new head coach Cam Cameron. This is one of the most storied franchise’s in the NFL, but the team has slipped in recent years with five straight years of missing out on the playoffs. Ownership is hoping that Cameron can use his speciality in offense to improve their numbers, while keeping the defense near the top of the league like years past.

Trent Green finally got his wish and was traded to Miami. Now, at 37, he still has to prove to the league that he can still play or else Cameron will be forced to move forward in developing this year’s second round draft pick in John Beck. Green is a talent when healthy, but if this line can’t protect him then the troubles of 2006 and the concussions that forced him to sit on the sidelines will return. Ronnie Brown was the team’s top pick in the 2005 draft, but without being able to split time with Ricky Williams last season he under-performed. Cameron was the offensive coordinator who has helped Tomlinson become a yearly contender for the MVP, can he help take Brown to the elite level as well? The team lost a lot at receiver, but Cameron is hoping to get Chris Chambers back on track. Miami also passed up on Brady Quinn in order to get Teddy Ginn, a move that many fans are in disagreement with.

The line is a strength on a talented defense with Jason Taylor generating 14 turnovers and 13.5 sacks last year on his way to the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award. Vonnie Holliday had seven sacks and 66-tackles at tackle last season and Matt Roth is good enough to replace Kevin Carter on the other side of the line. Linebacker is the meat of this defense, but the guys are a little old. Zach Thomas anchors in the middle with seven Pro Bowls and 100 tackles in each of his 11 seasons. Joey Porter was added and is a monster in the 3-4 who should only help get more pressure on the opposing pass throwers. Channing Crowder has room for improvement, but will be learning from two of the best. The secondary is a weakness on this side of the ball with no real shutdown corners and nobody who is a threat to make big plays.
Miami is getting lost in the mix with the Jets having such a great year last season. I think the Dolphins are the second best team in this division behind the Pats, but they aren’t going to be in the playoffs. The team will most likely end up with 7 or 8 wins, so if anything we would take the OVER, but it’s not a real solid selection and there is little value in the play.
